Player with actual SSA support?

I need any player capable of displaying SSA scripts with their original formatting, that is, the format rules specified within the SSA file.

It's absurd to use VirtualDub and its subtitler filter to preview my SSA scripts, but it's the only way I have now to do so.

please register vsfilter.dll (regsvr32 "\path\vsfilter.dll") and enjoy playback of subs in every dshow capable player if the sub file has the same name as the video file.

I already use it, but the filter is totally unable to display properly the demo.ssa file included in VirtualDub's subtitler filter. In fact it's simply stuck in the first caption unless I manually seek in the video. The same applies to MPC and its native subtitle support.

Programs such as ChronoSub (formerly Medusa?) also have trouble with it, and directly refuse to load the file.

There must be at least ONE software other than the VD subtitler filter capable of managing SSA properly.

maybe disabling "pre-buffer subtitles" in vsfilters properties->misc helps.

If not, it is most likely just that your computer is too slow to keep up and thus it vsfilter will only refesh the sub if there are some spare cpu cycles for it (in order not to slow down the video decoding - this is i guess the difference to the vfw used in VD, where the video will slow down in order to allow everything including subs to render)

Well that's a good one... but I just found the real problem. It was caused by the blank demo.avi video, which is a tricky AVI that doesn't advance in WMP 10 while it plays in other players. Since there's something wrong in this AVI, the VSfilter doesn't show properly the captions, and they appear perfectly when I use a proper AVI file.

It was all Avery Lee's fault after all. VirtualDub is not fooled by the demo.avi, while other players (except WMP10) actually attemp to play the file somehow.
