View Full Version : divx 6.1

I'm having the same problem as everyone else after the update.
I tried a simple direct conversion from VirtualDubMod using both versions 1.5.4.1 and 1.15.10.1. Both failed to convert using DivX in a 1-pass and multipass test. Looks like even if you get AutoGK running, you won't be able to convert.
My source was a .ts file that was saved using DGIndex as a .d2v project.
Anyone have any luck with VirtualDubMod directly?

Changing the build number to 1794 worked. What I mean by worked, is that AutoGK comes up (whew!) but only in XviD mode which is what I need anyway (no DivX = don't care). The only reason I was attempting to use DivX is to see if the speed/quality improvement are what they claim anyway.
len0x, thanks for a great product in AutoGK. :)

OK new plan:
- get BIEW binary editor
- open divx.dll with it in hex mode
- goto 0008ABCD address (F5) and change(F4) 00 to 07, then update (F2)
- works like a charm :)
Many thanks for the suggestion to use BIEW. It worked great, once I figured out how to use it. After about 2 hours, I'm definitely not comfortable changing things like this, I figured out what you were saying. I did it and it worked like a charm.
Much thanks, Amigo, great post. Just in case I screwed up, I had backed up the original DivX.dll and worked your magic on a copy. Then moved the copy back to win.sys32 folder. My backup resides in a safe place on a disc. It is my "life preserver".
Note: To anyone unfamiliar with using DOS type programs. In Windows XP, copy the DivX.dll to your "C" drive (easy to find). Right click on DivX.dll and then click on "Open with" on the pop-up screen, browse to the editor and click on the blue bordered box to activate the program and take you into DOS prompt, then carefully follow lenOx's instructions above. Remember, make a backup before starting, just in case. On Win XP this program, BIEW editor will always be in the "Open with" screen as an option program afterword.
If an admin sees this and thinks it is confusing, you have my permission to edit or delete this post as you see fit.

anybody that got 6.1 to work seeing a speed increase? I have been diong some tests and it is always slower then the bundled xvid. I am testing using a dual-core Intel 820.
Nope! Nothing spectacular. I tried to back up a video and the video file properties states "video codec XviD". And, I swear, I checked DivX.

Finally got it to working in AutoGK (DivX) and properties show DivX codec. Not bad results but I've seen better. DivX website states this build is for 64 bit hyper threaded chips and/or 64 bit dual core chips with all the latest enhancements not found on 32 bit chips. My understanding is that most everything works faster with these new chips. :D I'll find out in a couple of years when the prices drop to affordable levels. Then the'll come up with something new. Oh well.

I used Groovy Hex Editor (http://www.sb-software.com/hexeditor/) and it was
really simple.
Open the program and then open dvix.dll Select the jump box and enter 0008ABCD in the box marked jump offset and hit OK. Edit 00 to 07 (which is highlighted), saved the file and then put dvix.dll back into the system32 folder. I then rebooted and everything worked.
I hope this helps ,it worked great for me and I was having issues working out how to make the Biew editor function
Oldfart13
23rd December 2005, 19:07
Yes, Groovy Hex Editor did the trick BUT the jump offset is actually 0008ABC0 if you put in 0008ABCD, it will go to the other area automatically. The highlighted 00 is then changed to 07 and saved. The computer is rebooted and then AutoGK 2.26 will allow the DivX codec to be selected. Many thanks maruss, you made my day a bit brighter...

The relevance to the subject is that you suggested I DL some software that wants to put adware onto my computer before it will let you have the file. Go and download Groovy Hex Editor and you get no "waiting for ad.doubleclick" coming up. I have all those adverts blocked on my comp...

I don't understand why AutoGK needs to read the version information from the DivX DLL (besides determining DivX 5 from DivX 6). DivX stores the current version in the registry as the default value for:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DivXNetworks\DivX4Windows\State]
The fact that you can edit the DivX.dll and then AutoGK will work, shows that there is nothing wrong with DivX, and it works fine with AutoGK.
I have my own video conversion program that I wrote and it's supported DivX 6 through every upgrade without even needing to change any code, and I'm a sucky VB programmer. I know that len0x is a genious compared to myself.

Because before version 6.0.3 (which is in fact is 6.0.0.xxxx) I had to check for exact build and hardcode reg key. So check for build was more or less a hack that was easy to do and since I'm no longer developing AutoGK I prefer to spent as less time as possible doing modifications to existing code instead of writing a proper flexible code...

I don't mind that AutoGK does not work anymore with the latest DivX codecs, that was his choice not to support it anymore. But, now AutoGK will not work with XviD anymore if you have DivX 6.1 installed on your system. It simply crashes when you start it. It would be nice if simply ignored the DivX if it is not the correct version so we could still use it as our XviD tool. Anyone have a hack for that?

I am using AGK 2.20 and thinking of upgrading to the latest. So does the dll make it work with divx6.1 or just simply disable divx feature in AGK.
Also, anyone else used divx6.1 can comment on the picture quality as compared to xvid?
TIA.

It a) disables divx and b) makes it so you can actually open AutoGK with Divx 6.1 installed on your system. W/o it, if you have AutoGK and Divx 6.1 installed on your comp., AutoGK will crash when you try to open it.

Why answer if you don't know ???
Its totally incorrect - AutoGK fully supports divx 6.1 apart from versioning system of its dll. So provided version fixes not only startup of AutoGK, but allows you to encode with it...

If you apply a bit of logic then your very certain reply implies that either you tried it yourself and it didn't work or you read somewhere on this forum that it wouldn't. Because niether of that is true it would be much better to express that as your guess/opinion/thought rather than a true statement. If I was not here to correct you - it would mean that people would believe in it...

well, after tossing divx 6 for a while and finally deciding to give it another shot, I followed most of the editing examples mentioned previously, but have had some wierd results. As the only binary I know is Carol Danver's character in Marvel comics, I'll put my results here as best I can.
Divx 6.0 codec (with the free upgrade code to divx6 pro) installed with just the codec, divx ekg, and the divx pro upgrade installed (the converter I left out, as I'm trying to get autogk to work and it didn't seem appropriate)
Ran the 6.1 update and the beta 2 patch and got to the "unrecognized divx version" error. Ran Groovy hex editor and jumped to 0008ABC0 to change the highlighted bit to 7, but my highlighted bit read 03 rather than 00. Changed it to 07 and got autogk to work, though it showed as divx 5.0 rather than 6, but no audio.
Uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled divx and the 6.1 update. When I open ResHacker to look at the version number, it's showing 6,1,1,1016 (didn't change anything there, just looked at it)
opened the new .dll file in Groovy Hex editor and now have the following string at 0008ABC0:
BD 04 EF FE 00 00 01 00 01 00 06 00 F8 03 01 00
with the beginning 'BD' highlighted. Which of the values do I need to change to 07 to get autogk to recognize and use the divx 6.1 codec and have my audio show up?
Also, is it normal for Divx 6 to read as Divx 5.0 in g-spot?
Any answers or thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!

Actually, both were true. Right after I downloaded the .dll, AutoGK would start and encode with Xvid - not Divx. This was before I upgraded to 6.1 - must have had 6 something. Reading the following validated my thoughts on the subject.
In the future, I'll leave you panties out of it :-)

if you are not bothered to read and understand the full thread completely then you shouldn't really bother answering in it at all really - you are not making any useful contribution to it. Page 3 contains lots of replies from ppl who managed to encode with divx 6.1 (by modifying dll manually before it was offerred for download) and the fact that someone didn't manage to binary edit it himself says nothing about AutoGK's abilities.

Oh well, sorry, then that exchange shows a very poor command of the English language. Then, I go and try it, and it works with with xvid not divx (admitidly, it wasn't 6.1 I was using).

I just find the attitude very, very strange. There are nice ways to go about telling someone they're wrong. It's usually a good practice to treat others as fellow humans. If someone is spreading wrong info on purpose, that's one thing - but I doubt that happens much. If someone says something inaccurate, correct them-that's how we learn on these forums - and there are plenty out there that do treat people with respect.

Thanks for the above info. I had AGK 2.26 working then updated DivX with Beta 2 patch. AGK crashed. Tried editing as before and didn't work for me. I downloaded the above divx.dll and used it to replace "original" .dll then tried AGK again. Works wonderfully. :goodpost:

The latest DivX upgrade (6.1.1.1031) causes the "unsupported codec, will use XviD" to pop up when I try to use AGK 2.26. No big problem as I can still use XviD.
I tried editing the binary in DivX.dll (according to LenOx's instructions) and it took me to a strange place, I changed nothing. I can follow instructions well and am not a programmer or anything resembling one.:scared: Just curious, does anyone have newer instructions on how to get the new DivX working? I have a funny feeling that this will take an expert (such as LenOx) and a complete rewrite. If not will continue using AGK 2.26 for XviD as DivX has its own conversion programs, at last count three, original Dr DivX, the "new" Dr DivX and DivX converter. Somewhat like overkill.
Gees, I'd better quit while I'm ahead. Thanks again LenOx for a great program.

Hi Grumpy,
For 6.1.1.1031
Change at location: 8B065: From 04 (existing) to 07 (new value)
