Possible to add subtitles to xvid encodes?

Is it possible to add subtitles into my xvid encodes? If this is possible, can I enable or disable it whenever I want? I want to do this for my movies to view on the PSP. Thanks.

I should think it might be better to find out what sort of media the PSP is capable of playing. Ordinarily an XviD encode doesn't contain the subtitles unless they're burned right into the picture; .MKV is an exception. Can the PSP play the Matroska container?

No, not with the default media player.

Try to make disk with such files:
my_movie.avi (movie itself)
my_movie.eng.srt (english subtitles)
my_movie.fre.srt (french subtitles)
......
There are standalone players understand such structure.

For now, you can always hardsub with TextSub(). I heard some nice homebrew players are about to come out now though.
