Phantom Menace "alien" subtitles

None of the seven "Phantom Menace" subtitle/subpic streams identify alien speech ("Huttese", etc.) as forced subtitles. All seven appear to include subtitles for ALL speech.

Would someone be good enough to explain how can I identify and extract ONLY the subtitles for alien speech?

(I've read the Doom9 guides and attempted several Googlesearches, to no avail. Also, using Flask with subtitles selected resulted in NO visible subtitles, and Magic DVD Ripper's converter generated virtually invisible, transparent subtitles before crashing with a mysterious "Error 70")

It's my desire to convert the entire Star Wars collection to .AVI with both .AC3 audio and subtitles for alien speech - and burn them directly to one or two DVDs for playback on my Philips DVP642/37.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

If the subs are with any other stream U have to extract them manually.
It's a hell of a job....

However, since the DVD manages, by default, to display ONLY these alien speech subtitles, I've got to believe that there also must be an easier way to extract ONLY these subtitles...

Thanks very much for mentioning "SubRip". I had been using the "VOBSub" set of tools exclusively - and it apparently is flawed.

Using SubRip, I was able to easily extract the alien conversations from Stream 6. I simply had to byass ALL of the italicized references to the filmmakers that are also included in that subpic file.

I then used the "SubMux" tool of "VOBSub" to mux the SSA file with my DivX plus .MP3 version of the movie.

My next two problems appear to be:

1) Synching the subtitles with the video (The subtitles appear about 2 seconds too late)

2) Muxing it with the DivX plus .AC3 version. Doing so with the "SubMux" tool of "VOBSub" yields a file that plays the video rapidly, the audio choppy, and doesn't display the subtitles...

**EDIT** Synchronization problem was quickly resolved with the use of "SUBRESYNC.EXE" form the "VOBSub" tools.

So now, my one remaining problem is how to successfully mutliplex the subtitles with my DivX/.AC3 version. If someone has a solution for this, I'd appreciate hearing from you ;>}

I ended up ripping them all and trying them - there are two subs with just the alien languages, one of which was off by more than a minute. It didn't take long at all to rip them from an ISO image.

Why do U need to mux? Subs will be visible both on PC and stand alone if your stand alone shows divx....(subs must be burned with the same name as the divx file into a cd in order to be visible)

It's just my personal preference, if possible, to have one file per movie.

I'd still really like to know if there's a way to successfully multiplex the subtitles with the DivX/.AC3 version of the movie (while there's no problem multiplexing the subtitles with the DivX/.MP3 version)...

Well...maybe you should try asking in another forum (divx or audio) but try this:
Mux the divx with the sub first and then mux the whole thing with the ac3 file.
It's no secret I don't work with divx anymore 'cause it is my personal opinion mpg2 offer better quality and multiple choice at a fair price.
In other words, I only work with dvd so I can't be of more help with this issue, sorry...

Tried this, using VirtualDubMOD. (First checked that the silent DivXplus subtitles displayed properly. they did) Although resultant audio and video played back properly, the subtitles DISAPPEARED!

Successfully permanently incorporated the "alien speech" subtitles in the DivX/.AC3 video by using the "subtitler" filter (with the .SSA file created using "SubRip") under VirtualDubMOD.
