What subtitle format can be imported directly into DVDLab?

Hi,

I've tried .sub files extracted from DVDDecrypter and .sup from VobEdit, and in both cases, DVDLab won't recognize the subtitle stream (eng). How can i just keep the sub as it is, and just tackle it back in the m2v/ac3 file? (reauthor back)

I'm a novice with DVD-Lab but I've successfully imported ".srt" files and, once imported, you can edit them and generally have fun mucking about with them.

The problem is: how do you get a subtitle .srt file? At first, I looked at ways of converting .sup files (probably like you) but in the end I settled for SubRip.

SubRip is a little tricky to get the hang of but it's an excellent little program that reads the subtitle bitmap image from a vob sequence and converts it to one of several output formats, using OCR with input from you. I chose .srt because DVD-Lab accepts .srt but others may do just as well.

So download SubRip and give it a try. I'm so impressed with it that I now consider it a vital tool, and I'm going to make a donation to the author for his inspired programming.

By the way, I found the best way to import the .srt file was to double-click on the sub line in the movie window, and click the import button in the subtitle dialogue that subsequently appears.

Instead of using DVD Lab, you could use MuxMan to mux/author your video, audio and bitmap subtitle streams (sup format)...

If you need to add extra (custom made) subtitles to your DVD, you could use SubtitleCreator for creating SUP files out of text subtitles (.srt or .sub).

c'mon, let's go back to the topic.

i'm the same position as daehkcid. i have some subtitles in a graphic format (dvddecrypter .sub or i could rip them as idx+sub) that i don't want to OCR, just leave them as they are, so that, when authoring the dvd i could just sort of import them, do the authoring and off we go!

now, this seems somewhat impossible. e.g. dvdlab will only accept .bmp imagine opening 1,000 .bmps for a movie???!!!

any tip is welcome!

DVDLab ain't a freeware prog and this issue has been treated by me, Cons and
M1ckran in this thread.(all Qs have been answered, nothing more to add)
If You are not satisfied with DVDLab, which I hope and suppose You payed for, then write to the firm and ask for more simple solutions. They usually listen to customers(they listened to many of us when we asked for regular size vobs and not the strange size they used to begin with)

2.- better suppose nothing: there is no need to buy and later try. any sensible customer will _learn_ the details before acquiring anything.
3.- it happens dvdauthorgui does the task and beautifully. it can import .sup files and add a menu, so it meets the requisities daehkcid was looking for. this, is a productive reply. curiously enough $$$ progs can't do what freeware can... :D

Yes, of course, but the programmers will primarily accept suggestions from the peeps that bought the proggy(trust me on this).

Who said there is only dvdauthor? We normally use PCDemux, Muxman and Vobblanker to achieve what we want and You may also add custom menus with Vobblanker.
The whole thread started because a user wanted a specific feature that cannot be achieved by latest DVDLab.
You complained also about 1000 of bmps and my latest answer was:
If You want to use DVDLab and You need a specific feature, ask for it
(BTW, old Maestro used 1000 of bmps too).
If the user was asking for another solution, istead of using DVDLab, then I would have answered differently.
What I do not understand is:
If You don't want certains subs shrinking your movie, just don't choose them when you recompress.
Why on earth split the movie and remux without taking some subs?
There are plenty of programs able to recompress with good quality without taking all the subs, both freeware and commercial.
If You need DVDLab to add a "new" sub You don't need it really (too slow), use SubtitleCreator to make a "sup" file out of your translated sub and in order to translate a sub properly You need OCR the original sub (or take a already translated one but in this case You'll have to fit times properly).
All that written, it could be a good wish asking Mediachance for "sup" support.
