Adding Subtitle to MPEG (VCD)

Hi, noticed that I might be asking in the wrong place but it's where lots of experts could be found.

Got an mpeg file on hand, wanted to add subtitle to it and copy it as a VCD. What program should I use and any guides avilable. I have searched and searched on the net but didn't get a clue. Know the way to add to an AVI but don't know how to add subtitle to a mpeg. Any suggestion?

You have to use permanent subtitles as VCD doesn't support switchable ones. This means you'll have to re-encode the MPEG file and use a subtitler filter in your Avisynth script.

Noticed that, but how can I re-encode the MPEG file? What program should I use. Al I have is the MPEG file and a subtitile file on hand, had try to use TMPGEnc Plus with VobSub. But VobSub doesn't load with TMPGPlus, any quick and easy way to do that? Thanks!

Firstly I would try to make a selectable subtitles, multiplexing the mpeg as SVCD (bbMPEG should do it no probs) and give it to the player (RW disc) to see if it support it. If not, then the workflow for permanent subtitles:

If you install VobSub you only have to place the subs in the same folder as the movie (with the same name), and TMPGEnc will add the subs over the image automatically during encoding.
