Need help choosing MPEG-4 encoder
I have a Philips DVP642 DVD player and so far it has done wonders for me. It plays any DVD I throw at it and plays all of my Divx and Xvid movies with no problem.
This particular model is also supposed to be able to play MPEG4 also. However, I was really disappointed once I found out that it does not support Nero Digital, since that is the only mp4 decoder I'm familiar with. Would anyone happen to know which programs out there will allow me to view MPEG4 on my DVP642? And if so, could you explain or link a tutorial that could show me how to convert DVD or other video formats to mp4 with it? I would really appreciate anybody who could help me out, thanks.

If the former, you are already playing it. DivX and XviD is MPEG-4. If the latter, you can't. DVP642 only supports AVI and MPG. It doesn't support the MP4 container. |

Ahh okay I guess I got confused.
Well are there any standalones out there that play mp4 yet? I searched on the web and saw that Apex has a player that is supposed to be able to play Nero Digital but I don't think it's out yet. Are there any players out there that play any other mp4? |

Yes.... the DVP642 together with it's European cousin, the DVP630 both support the .MP4 container but sadly not with AAC audio.
Happily there are now quite a few stand-alone players that support the .MP4 container with AAC audio. And some that even offer NeroDigital certification.... Just look for the "Hardware Player" sticky Cheers
