jerky playback only on standalone

no luck searching for this info and I'm not sure where to post.

The problem is that on films of 2+ hrs which were captured from an analog source, re-encoded with TMPG, then authored with Maestro, there is fast jerky motion when the camera pans quickly.

What's strange to me is that on a PC running PowerDVD XP it's fine, but on a standalone (Pioneer DV-440) it's jerky.

has anyone else had this problem?

any info, help would be greatly appreciated.

My friend, it seems that we both share the same problem. My standalone is a Philips one and this problem it is caused by wrong field order encoding.

If u encoded with top field first, encode with bottom field first and vice versa.

I used TEMPGEnc and selected bottom first. But it didnt do any difference for me. Still crappy playback...

Just to add to the group, I have exactly the same problem. In fact I posted the same question under the DVD encoding forum and got the same advice. I will attempt to reauthor and report my experience.

I was using VOBs of video captured with my Panasonic HS2 video recorder, demuxing with VOBedit, then remuxing with the mpeg tools of TMPEGnc. AS far as I can tell there is no way to set TFF through mpeg tools, so I will try through the main TMPEGnc program.

Try to use Restream or DVDPatcher for revesing the fields.

well, I used restream and changed the VOB files to TFF on. This did improve the video but did not eliminate the jitter when panning. I would say that it is now about 1/3 as bad as with TFF off. This compares to the original VOBs from the HS2 which are perfectly clean and smooth. Can anyone think of any other factor in the demux, remux, authoring process that can contribute to this?

Well now I am in complete shock. Since setting TFF in the VOB didn't work, I took the demuxed video and encoded it with TMPGEnc with TFF set on. It worked perfectly! Totally smooth video. Now I can author with my own menues and effects. I had just about given up hope.

Well, apparently you are using search. That's a good thing. You might want to tone down on asking the same question so many times though - you really only need to ask once.

I believe you have an answer in the CCE forum.
