Imaging virtual volume after sysprep

I'm trying to create a stock XP image using sysprep for my own internal use with a VMWare session but for the life of me I can't seem to find a program that will dump an image file out from the virtualvolume. I was hoping for something like Ghost or PING but nothing seems to work. Either it won't recognize the virtual partition (PING) or the image file never saves to a physical disk despite one being set for the VM (Acronis).

Has anyone out there actually done this exact thing, or at least imaged a volume from a virtual machine? If so, how I can do this properly?
