Am I correct in assuming that even after this long time there is not a single standalone player available in the U.S. capable of playing back this format?

The available players are not shippable to the U.S., the APEX players aren't out (in spite of the erroneous announcement).

How about the RJTech RJ-1500DVX II. New versions of the player should offer playback of NeroDigital content, straight out of the box.

Cheers

Did your player offer NeroDigital, before the update?

My friend bought a RJ1500DVXII here . It play Nero MP4 out of the box. The portable RJ-250PDVX play Nero MP4 too but I have not heard any report about that player yet.
