Black Areas Cropping Problem
Hi,
I need some help regarding the cropping of black areas. Well, I always use AutoGK for my video encoding purposes, but just for a change, I tried to use MeGUI. Now using MeGUI, I was able to cut off the black areas by using these settings: ![]() So, MeGUI has recommended me a resolution of 704x272. But, when I tried to encode using AutoGK, whether I choose Maximum Width or Minimum Width or Auto Width, it is always going for 720x320 resolution. I mean, if there are black areas that have to be removed, shouldn't AutoGK also go for the resolution of 704x272? When I made AutoGK to choose a width of 704, it went for a resolution of 704x304. Why is there a difference between the resolutions suggested by these two softwares? And which one to choose then? |

Hi,
i don't know what "anamorphic" actually means. I tick mark that option simply because it was there and cropped off the black areas. Now, I would like to ask about something which I tried. I cropped off the black areas using MeGUI. Then, I got a HuffYUV file by clicking on "Pre-Rendering" job. This HuffYUV file was very heavy in size. Then, I compressed this HuffYUV file by using AutoGK to get my final AVI file. Is this method ok? Or Should I encode directly to .AVI using only AutoGK? Does this conversion to HuffYUV and then to AVI involves a quality loss? ( I tried it and i could not notice any difference) |

You need to read the wiki very carefully as well as all the old MeGUI threads. You have no need for AutoGK, you have no need for pre-rendering, you have no need to for HuffYUV. You especially have no need to check boxes if you are too lazy to google what they actually do. It is very frustrating to realize that people refuse to do an ounce of their own research before coming to doom9 to ask questions that have been answered many times over and involve things you can find in the dictionary. Please make the barest effort to do some investigating before you ask someone else to solve problems that could have been solved in the time it took me to type this final sentence.

or you can simply avoid giving a answer if it frustrates you so much...(you must have wasted a lot of your time in typing a paragraph)
Forums are meant for help, not for insulting the persons asking a questions... Ok, my question might be a small one or might have been asked before, but everybody is not perfect, i searched on net and could not find something suitable for my own task, that's why I thought of posting a question here. But I was not aware that I am going to waste so much precious time of some VVIP's here. I anyway asks the questions very rarely on this forum (15 posts only till date) and thanks to your warm response, I will prefer some other forum for asking questions. thank you Kindly delete my account so that I don't get a chance to log in again in case I forget the kind of response I got here |

Regarding your HuffYUV question, no there's no quality loss incurred. HuffYUV is AFAIK, for all intents and purposes, lossless.
Now as for whether you need pre-rendering. Since you asked, I might as well answer. I use it myself so I dare say I know something about it. Its mainly for when you have a CPU heavy script and you want to use 2-pass encoding. For example, my TempGaussMC deinterlacing script runs at around 10+ FPS. If I were to do a 2 pass without pre-rendering, both passes will run at 10+ FPS. However if I do a pre-rendering, once that's done I can do the 2 pass much quicker. My first pass fps is usually 90+ and the second pass 40+. Of course, if you are simply cropping, that isn't very CPU intensive, so you can just go ahead and do the 2-pass without pre-rendering. ![]() Hope my explanation makes sense. |

Hi,
I would tend to agree with aegisofrime on the Huffyuv, avi and pre-rendering. If your goal is to feed AutoGK with specific parameters there are other possibilities like: - re-use and tune the AGK-avs script in VDMod, - try another GUI like StaxRip; Megui is tricky or complex. Your question is half AutoGK, half MEGUI-beginner so it could maybe be moved to the newbies section..? Now if ever you choose to NOT quit Doom9, be aware that newbies are not so-well protected (cocooned?) here than, maybe in other forums. I will not continue on the subject to avoid a new flame war but it is my opinion and I have already expressed it. It is the dark side; the bright side is that when getting more experienced you will (often?) get very good advices on specific or tricky questions. The choice is yours. Did
