DScaler capture via USB
I was checking the FAQ about capturing and I noticed the mention of DScaler and MoreTV as programs for watching TV and the note about the need of a BT8x8 chip for using them.
DScaler supports (I don't know since which version) USB TV Cards and of course capturing from them. Shouldn't there be a small amendment about that in the FAQ? I know USB TV cards are not a good choice either for watching or for capturing (well I found out late!) but because I know how difficult it is for people to find a program that supports USB, I thought I should bring that up. Thanks. |

After a quick installation "zapping", from 4.1.6 upwards it has some USB support. I say "some" because I don't know about other cards but my "Smart TV USB2" clone (it's not even Hercules) works and apparently it's a SAA7113H card. 4.1.6 is an alpha version but all others support it as well.
I cound't get it to even start with 3.1.2 Hope that's enough info. Cheers. |

I have been using virtualVCR with my WinTV USB2 (can't beat $20 after rebates
)I didn't know dscaler could capture (never had any reason to use it before), I'll have to give it a try and see if it works better than virtualVCR (VLC is sort-of capable of capture over usb too).

I tried out dscaler v1.1.15. It was able to show the video, but barely. It came up with a config error for that, and I couldn't figure out how to get the audio over usb working in it.
Got a link for v1.1.6? ps: Sorry about the double post. I would have edited my other one, but that wouldn't have gotten the thread any attention

You're obviously talking about 4.1.1.15 right?
All previous versions are on the SF Dscaler page. I didn't have any problems with audio. Maybe you haven't setup audio correctly? Check which one of the Audio settings works for you: Tuner/Line/Mic. I am on Tuner. Then maybe you have to do some tweaking in the Audio Mixer Setup. Right now I'm having problems with the video as well but that's because I did a clean install of Win2K an now it looks pretty bad an pixelated. Don't know what I am missing but I'll work on it. EDIT: Problem solved. Wrong TV Tuner drivers. Now why can't we choose the apropriate drivers and such when re-installing windows just like linux? Exactly that: it's not like linux! ... wonder how I managed that one..I looked through all of dscaler's options, the only thing i could select for audio was my onboard sound. I need to be able to select 'wintv usb audio'. I couln't find where I could configure the video crossbar filter either... perhaps I missed something, I don't know. USB support seems very 'iffy' to me at this point though. After playing around with the options for a while, I lost video and couldn't get it back.
