@jasmin: if you send pms you should not turn that functionality off again so I can't answer you. A rar file containing a bunch of reg files and no documentation.. I honestly don't know what to do with it..

Okay, if you don't want it, I don't care...at least it was good enough for a sticky...
I don't know how to make one single-reg file out of it...I asked for help, noone answered...and a documentation (simply copying the text from the first post) would be easy to add...or if someone has the knowledge to make some kind of installer out of it, that would, of course, be fine; I don't know how to do that. I made these reg-files just for me and they work for me as they are...it has been downloaded a real lot (too lazy to look up the logs now, but it was between 50 and 150 downloads a week and is still on demand), so some people seem to find it useful... It's no real bother on my web-space, it just bugged me a bit and I thought, it's well suited on your site...if I ever really feel like removing it I will simply do so...that shouldn't be a real problem, because instructions on how to make it manually are here, but there must have been some people who didn't want the hassle, were unsure about using regedit or just too lazy and preferred the download. It's just simple reg-files, no big deal, so don't throw things at me like: "What do you think how important that crap is?"! The read count of the sticky and the download count of the file at least show, it's not completely useless... Enough talking, think we have made our points. |

Might be a good idea...I personally don't mind importing 6 reg-files, but maybe it looks a bit more professional, when included in one inf-file...
I will look into it, and if it seems to complicated or I am somehow unsure of it, I will simply leave it...if not, I will maybe replace the reg-files with the inf file, maybe I will just keep it for myself and kill the reg-files on my space...don't know, didn't decide yet what to do...but thanx for your suggestion, I'll have a look. BTW: As you seem familiar with making inf-files: Why don't you just make the correct inf-file out of my 6 reg-files? Just to be on the safe side... I had a quick look on your inf-file and it seems a bit too complicated for me...I don't know about this AddReg9x and AddRegNT stuff...maybe you want to make an inf for 2k/XP? Maybe it is even possible to integrate both versions into one universal file for every Win OS? We could then add a simple documentation and may actually have a file that deserves to be hosted by Doom9

There's an easier way....
There's an easier (and somewhat more kosher, I believe) way to solve this problem.
The key lies in directshow filter priority (aka merit), which a simple edit of the registry can be used to set. 1. Install divx5 first, and then install divx3.11 2. Run regedit 3. Do 'find', tell it to look for "DivX MPEG-4 DVD Video Decompressor" 4. Keep doing 'find again' until you get to one that has a binary value titled "Filter Data" in the same key 5. Choose file menu -> Export and save the key to a .reg file. This backs the key up in case you mess up. 6. Double click that binary value "Filter Data" to edit it 7. The seventh byte (2 digit hex number) from the left on the first line should be "80". 8. Move your cursor onto it, hit delete, and then type "90" in its place (this should also get all the other bytes aligned back to the way that they were before). 9. Reboot 10. And once again enjoy 640x480 DivX3 movies with full postprocessing on a 800MHz system! That bumps up the DivX3 filter's priority from x00800000 to x00900000 - DivX5's filter stays at x00800000 so DivX3's takes priority on everything that it is capable of playing. I have included a .reg file that performs this on my system but I do not guarantee that it will work on everyone's. If you run 'regsvr32 DivX_c32.ax' again for whatever reason (or reinstall divx3.11) you will have to repeat this process. This same method can be used to choose which MPEG2 filter you want to use by default in media/bs/zoom player to play MPEG2/VOB files if you have more than one such filter installed. Say you have windvd, pdvd, and ATI's player. Bump up the priority of the one that you like best, and that'll become the default directshow filter. *****divx3.reg starts here***** Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{083863F1-70DE-11d0-BD40-00A0C911CE86}\Instance\{82CCD3E0-F71A-11D0-9FE5-00609778AAAA}] "FriendlyName"="DivX MPEG-4 DVD Video Decompressor " "CLSID"="{82CCD3E0-F71A-11D0-9FE5-00609778AAAA}" "FilterData"=hex:02,00,00,00,00,00,90,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,30,70,69,33,\ 00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,08,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,30,74,79,33,00,\ 00,00,00,d0,00,00,00,e0,00,00,00,31,74,79,33,00,00,00,00,d0,00,00,00,f0,00,\ 00,00,32,74,79,33,00,00,00,00,d0,00,00,00,00,01,00,00,33,74,79,33,00,00,00,\ 00,d0,00,00,00,10,01,00,00,34,74,79,33,00,00,00,00,d0,00,00,00,20,01,00,00,\ 35,74,79,33,00,00,00,00,d0,00,00,00,30,01,00,00,36,74,79,33,00,00,00,00,d0,\ 00,00,00,40,01,00,00,37,74,79,33,00,00,00,00,d0,00,00,00,50,01,00,00,31,70,\ 69,33,08,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,01,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,30,74,79,\ 33,00,00,00,00,d0,00,00,00,60,01,00,00,76,69,64,73,00,00,10,00,80,00,00,aa,\ 00,38,9b,71,44,49,56,31,00,00,10,00,80,00,00,aa,00,38,9b,71,64,69,76,31,00,\ 00,10,00,80,00,00,aa,00,38,9b,71,44,49,56,32,00,00,10,00,80,00,00,aa,00,38,\ 9b,71,64,69,76,32,00,00,10,00,80,00,00,aa,00,38,9b,71,44,49,56,33,00,00,10,\ 00,80,00,00,aa,00,38,9b,71,64,69,76,33,00,00,10,00,80,00,00,aa,00,38,9b,71,\ 4d,50,34,53,00,00,10,00,80,00,00,aa,00,38,9b,71,6d,70,34,73,00,00,10,00,80,\ 00,00,aa,00,38,9b,71,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00 Any questions? let me know. -orulz |

if it works, we can make an inf-file out of that solution then... |

I have two occurences of the entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{083863F1-70DE-11d0-BD40-00A0C911CE86}\Instance\{82CCD3E0-F71A-11D0-9FE5-00609778AAAA} and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{083863F1-70DE-11d0-BD40-00A0C911CE86}\Instance\{82CCD3E0-F71A-11D0-9FE5-00609778AAAA} But it's possible that you only have to change one of the entries and the other one gets modified automatically (not sure, if it works in both directions). To be sure, it would be best to make a version that modifies both entries, I think. |

Get it from http://www4.ncsu.edu/~opevans/divx3fix.reg
Those two keys are indeed links to the same key in the registry, so any change to one shows up in the other- and it works both ways. The way I see it, the less modifications to the registry the better, and the .reg file is simpler than the .inf file. If you wanna do the .inf, you're welcome to, but this does the job just fine. -orulz |
