Cannot Connect Avermedia Live Gamer Portable C875 to VirtualDub2

I am trying to use an Avermedia Live Gamer Portable C875 (not LGP2) to VirtualDub2 and I cannot seem to get it to connect to the driver. The latest driver is loaded and it is in the list under Capture/Device (pic1). When I click to select I get a "Cannot Connect to Desired Capture Driver" (pic2).

I probably have something misconfigured, but I can't seem to see what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

discusses similar problems with Hauppauge. The winning suggestion by Sharc was to run the capture sw installer once, and then not to use it further.
If it helps here I don't know, just a hint...

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately no luck. Tried installing the Avermedia RECentral software. I was able to use it to capture VHS audio and video using Avermedia sw. However, got the same driver error the first time I tried and now I'm getting a crashed error message showing and Out of Bound memory access error.
