i am able to record DTS using a Prodigy 7.1 HiFi soundcard with a Toslink connected directly from laserdisc player (have an Audigy2ZS but it doesn't have a digital input). Under the card's Config, selected EXT and it automatically detected the Toslink connection. Set to 44100

Recorded a 16-bit 44100 stereo wav in Cool Edit Pro 2.1, and it recorded great. Saved as a Windows PCM Wave, ran the wave through BeSliced using BeSplit 0.9 beta 8 and it created a .dts file that worked - older builds didn't.

http://besweet.notrace.dk/BeSplitv0.9b8.zip

Used eac3to to extract wavs, used Cool Edit Pro to cut out silence, etc. down to the millisecond and resample all wavs to 48000, then DTS Suite to make DTS-HD MA file (didn't want to go from lossy to lossy, so I have "lossless" of "lossy")

The easiest way to have AC-3 from SAT is of course to record them, and then to transfer the files (USB, network) to PC. You'd need a PVR to do this. And not all of them feature such connections, and even then, not all of them can use them (Licence or legal issues).

Secondly, having a PC soundcard to record is a good idea. What is not a good idea is to buy the soundblaster type of cards then to "crack" it to accept digital 1:1. It comes with dubious drivers, loads of small services are loaded taking CPU time and resources, it requires 3 IRQs (while most profi cards can share a single one, up to 3 cards). Besides, its HiFi qualities are overmarketed. Finally, it was the Audigy series that killed the market for EMU (most people thought that the EMU-chip is responsible for the inavoidable conversion to 48kHz).
Buy a decent profi card, it would cost the same as the audigy, comes with solid drivers, is bit 1:1, and should have profi specs in terms of quality.

It looks like a fine audiocard, but I'm not sure about it's drivers, I presume they created a sort of wrapper driver for all those standards, and not a native ASIO one. It definitively can do 44.1 bit-perfect (or DTS-pass-through).

BeSplit v0.9 b8 can still be found here

Not easy to find

Just done some capture from DTS LD

Using Reaper with Phonic Digitrack with ASIO4ALL drivers on Win7 x64

The file plays perfectly fine in Reaper via Digital Out to an Amp (correctly recognized as DTS)

Code:
Length: 0:27.554
Sample rate: 44100
Channels: 2
Bits/sample: 24 (int)
Total samples: 1,215,160
Blockalign: 6
Datablock start: 736
BWF chunk:
    Originator: REAPER
    Date: 2014-02-03
    Time: 18-50-17
    Start offset: 0:00.000
But BeSplit creates .dts with error message:

Code:
[00:00:00:000] +------- BeSplit -----
[00:00:00:000] | Input : w:\DTSDigitalSound.wav
[00:00:00:000] | Source Sample-Rate: 44.1KHz
[00:00:00:000] | Channels Count: 2, Bitrate: -100kbps
[00:00:00:000] | Output : W:\DTS.dts
[00:00:00:000] +---------------------
........
[00:01:07:970] Stream error : Sync found after 100 bytes
[00:01:07:996] Stream error : Sync found after 823 bytes
[00:01:08:048] Stream error : Sync found after 1307 bytes
[00:01:08:101] Stream error : Sync found after 1127 bytes
[00:01:08:153] | Writing W:\DTS.dts
[00:01:08:153] +---------------------
[00:01:08:153] Operation Completed !
[00:00:00:000] <-- Process Duration
and the resulting .dts does not play in anything (VLC, MPC-HC with spidifer)

What does it mean?

AC3 recording with above unit is no go at all (seems like nothing gets to the unit from SPDIF or it might be dropped in its firmware?)
As per this post elsewhere

Hi guys, I grave this thread from the abyss.

I know that this thread is very old but I have a question about recording the multichannel (Dolby Digital 5.1) by Creative Sound Blaster Z and Terratec 6 Fire 24/96LT PCI Express Card. Would the both PCIe Cards works?

I have tested to connect from RF demodulator to the AV receiver using S/PDIF and all 6 speakers including subwoofer can be heard but the record was failed, I get always after the capturing only stereo 2.0.

I want to record multichannel from Laserdisc and those have 6 tracks.

Does someone know which card would you recommend me?
