Watching DVDs
I try to watch DVD videos using a slackware based x86-64 Linux (Kernel 4.15.2).
I looked up several tutorials and howtows, and most said I just have to install libdvdcss. So I installed libdvdcss-1.4.0-x86_6 .tgz… but unlike I read in the tutorials and howtos, that did not solve the issue of the unreadable play-protected DVD. I still cannot play any DVDs with play-protection (also called "copy protection") I just want to be able to watch the DVDs using mpv (currently V0.27.0). Trying to access the whole DVD, mpv accesses every single VOB and fails to load any. Going into the Video DVD folder with an terminal and opening (or, trying to open, that is) a VOB to see possible mpv errors, I get this: Code:
/mnt/sr0/VIDEO_TS$ mpv VTS_01_1.VOB Playing: VTS_01_1.VOB Failed to recognize file format. Exiting... (Errors when loading file) /mnt/sr0/VIDEO_TS$ file VTS_01_1.VOB VTS_01_1.VOB: ERROR: cannot read `VTS_01_1.VOB' (Input/output error) /mnt/sr0/VIDEO_TS$ ls -l VTS_01_1.VOB -r--r--r-- 1 65534 65534 1073739776 Apr 28 2007 VTS_01_1.VOB Any ideas what else I need to be able to play DVD videos? Cheers |

Have you tried good old MPlayer? I don't know its current DVD state, but that's what I used back in the days when watching copy-protected DVDs. I moved away from DVDs years ago so I no longer keep track on the various player states

Don't mount the DVD, just do:
Code:
mpv dvdnav:////dev/sr0 Last edited by aidenn0; 3rd April 2018 at 11:26. Reason: add info about VLC |
