PgcEdit errors saving menu buttons created with Windows DVD Maker

Hello,

I had a 996MB AVI file with a running time of 1:46:25 that I wanted to
put on DVD, but I didn't know how.

I used Wonderfox DVD Video Converter to convert it to NTSC DVD format,
which yielded a 4.29 GB VOB file with a running time of 1:46:25.

I then learned that my new Windows 7 machine had something called
Windows DVD Maker. (According to Wikipedia, "Windows DVD Maker is available
on Home Premium and Ultimate editions of Windows Vista and on Home Premium,
Professional and Ultimate editions of Windows 7.") I loaded the AVI file
into it, and created menus.

The resultant DVD had no sound.

I went online and found that the solution was to convert the AVI file to
VOB. Since I already had a converted VOB file, I opened Windows DVD Maker,
clicked on Add items, and changed the filetype from Media Files to All
Files, just like I do whenever I play a VCD on my PC, and the VOB file
appeared. Windows DVD Maker accepted the file, and the resultant DVD had
both menu buttons and sound.

Yay.

In order to revert the DVD to folders, I ripped the DVD with DVDFab DVD
Copy, made a backup copy of the folders, then opened the first set of folders
with PgcEdit.

A popup appeared that said:

(1)
Verify number of streams (in whole DVD)
There are 1 audio streams defined for the Menu domain
in the VMGM_MAT table of VMGM.
0 audion stream are really used by the PGCs.
Fix the number of audio streams in VMGM_MAT to 0?

I clicked on Yes.

I ran Remove Useless Stuff, then burned to disc.

The resultant DVD did not have working scene menu buttons, only a working
startup screen menu.

I then performed some detective work to see what happened the first time
I used PgcEdit for leaving at least 32K of space between IFO and BUP.

I re-opened the folders in PgcEdit and found that the 2 startup screen
menu buttons from VTSM 1, LU 1 (en), 3 (0:20) 2b. were present, whereas
the 8 scene menu buttons that had been in VTSM 1, LU 1 (en), 4 (0:15) 8b.
and in VTSM 1, LU 1 (en), 5 (0:15) 8b. were not.

I then made a second backup of the DVDFab DVD Copy folders, then took the
contents of the first backup of the DVDFab DVD Copy folders and opened it with
PgcEdit, but this time, I didn't run Remove Useless Stuff. The resultant
ISO and DVD had working buttons and sound!

Yay again.

So, I re-opened the folders in PgcEdit again to see what might have caused
the error the first time.

When I ran Remove Useless Stuff, I encountered the following probably-relevant
popup, so I copied it down. It said:

(2)
PgcEdit: Save Buttons
There are modified buttons in file "VTS_01_0.VOB" (0.03 GB).
This VOB file will be updated now.
There is still no backup of this file in the PgcEdit_backup folder.
Do you want to backup the original file now?

I clicked on Yes and the buttons vanished from VTSM 1, LU 1 (en), 4
and from VTSM 1, LU 1 (en), 5.

I re-opened PgcEdit and there were question marks to the left of the b.s
like so: VTSM 1, LU 1 (en), 4 (0:15) ?b. and VTSM 1, LU 1 (en), 5 (0:15) ?b.

A popup message said:

(3)
PgcEdit
There is a "menubuttons.but" file in the root folder of your DVD.
Do you want to import it?
WARNING: This will overwrite all menu button and BOV information!
Your buttons edits will be saved in that menubuttons.but file too!
You should answer Yes only if you don't have the VOB files.
Note: If you answer Yes, PgcEdit will not ask this question again and
will assume Yes each time for the current DVD and session.

I had answered No originally, but this time I clicked Yes.

It restored the 8 buttons in VTSM 1, LU 1 (en), 4 (0:15) 8b. and in
VTSM 1, LU 1 (en), 5 (0:15) 8b.

I then ran Remove Useless Stuff again, whereupon the 8 buttons corresponding
to VTSM 1, LU 1 (en), 4 (0:15) 8b. and in VTSM 1, LU 1 (en), 5 (0:15) 8b
disappeared again and I got the following popup:

(4)
PgcEdit: Save Buttons/BOV
Errors saving menu buttons!
Affected domain:
VTSM 1
As there is a "menubuttons.but" file in your DVD root folder, and
the buttons were loaded from that file when the DVD was opened,
PgcEdit has successfully saved the menu buttons in that file.
Do not forget that the buttons had NOT been saved in the VOBs!
NOTE: This warning is shown only once per Pgcedit session.

What's the story here? I can't run Remove Useless Stuff if and when I
convert from AVI to VOB and make a DVD with Windows DVD Maker?
