How to solve watching Blu-rays with too low/high volume on stereo speakers?
I watch Blu-ray movies on my PC with PotPlayer and KMPlayer. I have stereo speakers.
How to solve the issue with too low/high volume of DTS audio, where the actor's voices are very quiet, while the explosions and gunfight sound effects are way too loud? I would like it so that the actor's voices are clearly audible, while the loud volume of explosions and shooting are decreased to a more comfortable loudness range. Are there any settings in PotPlayer and KMPlayer to solve this issue? Which settings do you use? Last edited by orion44; 27th April 2021 at 14:36. |

I think what you want is Dynamic Range Compression, however I've no idea how to do that in Potplayer or KMPlayer.
A thread on it for ffmpeg[I aint read it]:- https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=168148 EDIT: Wikipedia:-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_range_compression

The television channels to avoid this problem apply compression filters, I don't know if these players have these filters, when I want to see a video with similar audio I extract it and in adobe audition I apply a compressor and then muxing the video.

It really depends.
If the soundtrack was designed for 6, 8, 24, 1001 speakers, then it may be that the downmixing algorithm (the matrix) must also be corrected. Many players (hardware) have DRC settings. For me, the precedence of explosions and other fx is a sign of a bad movie, when the attention of the spectator is directed to effects instead to the subject of the movie.
