what is Motion compensation.how does it help, can anyone one explain in detail

hello everyone,

can anyone tell me what is motion compensation.
i know how to use avisynth(not perfectly), how does it help
in encoding videos, first of all how what does it do,
i dont know the concept,
i know tools like MVtools are used for doing that,
i tried to read the official scite of MVtools,
but understood nothing because its very deep
i am confused, can anyone guide me through this,
just explain me how it helps in encoding.

i am in intermediate stage(not a newbie nor expert or professional)

i would really be thank full to you.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply,.but
actually i already read that link before and found some difficulty in understanding,i would really appreciate if you can explain more practically with some examples.
i mean
how to completely remove block artifact and make video very smooth SO that i dont even see a single block after encoding to xvid.

actually this was my problem, when i encoded my videos i did'nt know anything about motion estimation and compensation, due to this reason i did'nt use any of motion estimation filters in avisynth, and ended with bad quality.
BUT THANKS TO THIS FORUM NOW I KNOW(BUT NOT PERFECLTY) NOW I REALLY WOULD ASK SOME ONE WHO CAN TELL ME HOW CAN I GET WELL WORK WITH MVTOOLS TO WORK WITH ESTIMATION AND COMPENSATION.
PLS DONT POST MVTOOS SCITE LINK BUT PLS DO EXPLAIN GENERALLY IN SIMPLE LANGUAGE. BECAUSE IAM REALLY NUT SOMETIMES.

ONE MORE DOUBT IS THAT IF I AM RIGHT BY GLOBAL MOTION ESTIMATION AND COMPENSATION. WE CAN GET HIGH QUALITY DVD TO DVDRIP(ENCODED OR COMPRESSED) WITH LOWER BITRATE FOR LONGER VIDEOS,RIGHT

Motion compensation is not some magic bullet that will let you get perfect quality at low bitrates. Where did you get this idea?

And please don't post in all capitals; it makes you look like a moron and is hard to read. Thank you.
