Lg bd390

I have successfully played full disc backups on BD-25 on the LG BD390. No issues.

I made a BD-9 full disc with BD Rebuilder 0.29.04 and the BD390 shows it as an AVCHD disc and promptly hangs with a black screen and the front panel reading 00000. Power down is required.

I made a BD-5 using the AVCHD.iso test and it works fine. (Tonight I will try it with a BD-9 disc, but I doubt it's the media.)

I have tried deleting the CERTIFICATE and AUXDATA folders from the BD-9 - made no difference. I also tried running GoBD last night and that didn't help either (but I left the CERTIFICATE and AUXDATA folders in place).

Has anyone got a full disc BD-9 to play on a BD390? Suggestions on what else to try?

For AVCHD to work on the latest LGs, you need to use tsMuxeR v1.9.9. Anything later will not work.

Full movie backups on anything but BD media(BDR/RE) is very unpredictable, even Sony players are not completely compatible. Movie only should be compatible on almost any player that supports AVCHD.

It's a longshot but one thing you can try if your player isn't playing full backups from DVD is copying all the content except for the BDMV\STREAM folder from the original to the DVD output, overwrite everything. This will cause video streams to end earlier then they should but it could also test whether BD-RB is doing something to the files that some players don't agree with.

Thanks all. Here is some more data:

Tried burning the AVCHD iso to a DVD-9 - it didn't play - until I changed the book type to DVD-RW, then it was fine.

Tried burning the BD-RB output to DVD-9 with book type set to DVD-RW, no go. Tried the same without the AUXDATA and CERTIFCATE folders, still no go.

So at this point I've decided it's not worth the effort - I'll just stick with BD-25.

For full movie backups, I agree, stick with BD-25 media for maximum compatibility. Movie only to BD5/BD9 should be compatible with most AVCHD capable BD players.

I'm not sure if you noticed my previous post. Try remuxing any movie-only backups with tsMuxeR v1.9.9, use the "AVCHD" output, if you are going to use DVD media. Also, be sure to burn using the UDF 2.5 file system.

Odin24:

I saw your post but I am not doing movie-only backups so it doesn't apply.

I don't own the player but I haven't heard of this type of problem with it on a properly encoded file. It could be any number of things from software to the dvd copy protection.

Nothing quite as direct as xvid4psp with open dvd but if you are familiar with demuxing with dgindex and creating avisynth files RipBot264, HDconverttoX, sx264 can input avisynth and output bluray/m2ts. RipBot264 has a bitrate calculator if you are aiming for a certain size, the other 2 don't.

Not to sound like an advertisement of my tool, but multiAVCHD will re-author a DVD into a Blu-ray or AVCHD in few minutes without re-encoding, keeping the original quality. Of course it is possible to transcode to H.264/AVC, too.

It is as simple as dragging VIDEO_TS folder to multiAVCHD and clicking "START". No need for avisynth or anything else (if user doesn't need a menu).

I do not know if it's useful but I tested with same files my new PopcornHour C200 with an LG BluRay reader monted inside and the results were quite good!!

AVCHD - OK !
NEWBD - OK !
OLDBD - OK !
AVCHD_AUX - OK !
AVCHD_STRICT - OK !
AVCHD_CROP720p - OK !
AVCHD_CROP1080p - OK !
AVCHD_DTSHD - OK !
AVCHD_TRUEHD (*) - OK !

(*) with this iso burned I hear only 2 piano notes on the last 2 seconds of the clip, is it normal?

I burned the ISOs on a good quality DVD-RW (SONY) at a 1X speed and no problems at all for any of the files.

This is the DEFINITIVE media player after this test as it can read all digital media (DVD and BD either originals and backups) and all media files all around (inlcuding HD MKV and HD XVID).

It's firmware needs tweaking but so far I am happy of having wait and not bought a SAP BluRay Player!!!

If you need further info or to run additional tests I am available, so contact me via PM or EMAIL!

AVCHDCoder

I have a JVC XV-PB1 and all of the burned ISOs played. To my naked eye the "crop1080" and "crop720" (both avchd and newbd) showed some signs of artifacts in that the circle border was not truly clear. Although there was some sound on the DTS ISOs, I can't vouch for true DTS sound as I do not have a DTS sound system.

@vamsiklak

Hi!

May I ask what the purpose/benefit is in simply converting DVDs to BluRay format?

Your popcorn is actually a computer (it should play the HD formats better than any SAP, I mean also non-standard HDTV videos) - I'm not sure if it is within the theme, but thanks for that info.

Beware firmware update 8.08.539.B.
FYI:
I let my LG BD390 update to the Oct 2010 firmware 8.08.539.B.
Afterwards it would not play any of the mkv's I'd created with Handbrake .0.9.4.
It would start to play the sound with no picture and then stop and power down.
I was able to download the previous version .531 from LG's website and flash it back to that version.
Now they play fine again.

Glitch or bug? Anyone else have problems with .539?
