What Are the Different Types of Vacuum Cleaners? - Buying Guide (2022)
Vacuum cleaners are a must-have tool in every household. It not only helps you keep the place clean and tidy, but it also protects you from allergies and airborne bacteria. On the market, you’ll find several different kinds of vacuum cleaners. Each one has a special design as well as their own advantages and disadvantages. Here are all of the types and their differences! Upright Vacuum Cleaner Uprights are the “classic” vacuum cleaners. They have been around for a very long time and a lot of people grew up with them whirring around the house. The way to use it is simple: tilt back and push. As the vacuum runs across the floor, the suction nozzle and the rotating brush at the bottom will scoop up dirt and take out debris. These vacuums typically come with very powerful motors, so they’re the ideal choice for cleaning hard-to-clean surfaces like high-pile carpets. Many upright models come with special carpet cleaning modes and height adjustment levers to improve the vacuum’s carpeting cleaning ability. The chief drawback is that they are heavy and difficult to maneuver. Stick Vacuum Cleaner Stick vacuums are basically the slimmer, lighter version of the upright. They have the same shape and size as a broom, so they’re typically a lot easier to use than an upright and easier to store. Suction power isn’t as high as an upright, so these vacuums are often used for quick cleaning sessions rather than deep cleans. However, many modern stick vacuums nowadays are powerful enough that they can rival the cleaning power of uprights. Most stick vacuums on the market these days are convertible. By taking off the front suction wand, you can convert them into smaller, handheld vacuums. They are available both corded and cordless. Canister Vacuum Cleaner A canister vacuum cleaner stores most of its components in a large, wheeled canister (the motor, the dust cup, air filtration system, and so on). This way, a canister vacuum can be very heavy, yet it doesn’t impede the user’s performance or affect comfort level by much. Canister vacuums typically come with very powerful motors and a wide variety of accessories. Therefore, they can often be used to clean many surface types, from carpets and hard floors to stairs and high shelves. Because they’re quite bulky, a canister vacuum can be difficult to store. Handheld Vacuum Cleaner The selling point of handheld vacuums is their lightweight and portability. These models are typically very small and are light enough that you can carry and use them with just one hand. People use handheld vacuums for quick clean-up jobs or cleaning inside small, cramped spaces that larger vacuums can’t enter (the car, for example). There are many different handheld designs that you can find. Some are corded, some are cordless. Many come with a rotating brush, but some may not. Due to their smaller motor, handheld vacuums aren’t very powerful. Robot Vacuum Cleaner Robot vacuums are considered to be the next evolution of vacuum cleaners. They can still suck up dirt and take out debris like a normal vacuum. However, what sets them apart is that they can do it all autonomously. These robots don’t need you to control and guide them the whole way. Just push a button and the computer system will handle everything for you. They’re convenient and can save you a lot of time cleaning. But of course, robot vacuums can be a bit expensive. Conclusion These are the five types of vacuum cleaners! Hopefully, this guide has made it all clearer for you. Up next, if you have a Dyson vacuum and it is not working well, we have a couple of maintenance guides that you can check out. In these articles, we answer popular questions like “How to clean dyson vacuum” and provide fixes to issues such as “Dyson vacuum stopped suction”.
