Appending sumltiple mkv files as one

I know that with mkvtoolnix gui is possible to append two or more mkv files if they are at same settings: resolution, bit depth, frame rate... and so on but, do those appended files will stay joined forever or they might break, for example if player mpc-hc or vlc plays them fine today, will it be playing them fine after a long time?
