how to reach good quality and low size on disk for videos

hi
im using virtual Dub to crop and convert my videos
i use xvid or divx codec to converting my videos to avi
i seen some videos in *.mp4 or *.mkv or *.avi formats that have very good quality and low size on disk

for example one of this clips has 6 minutes time and 60 MB in size and is 720p resolution and very good quality...
is there any way to convert my videos like this one?

For VirtualDub you could use x264vfw, the vfw version of x264.

And you should change the wording of the topic quickly, using the evil word twice.

I don't quite get what options you mean but for x264 just stick with the preset/tuning system.

Set the tuning to your input (-animation for anime and cartoons, -film for pretty much anything else) and the preset according to the time you want to spend on the encoding.

If you have to achieve a specific size use a bitrate mode or else set the crf to a value to get the quality you desire.
