dts-hd from pc to receiver

Hi lads,

SPECS:

ATI 4870 1GB
42inch Toshiba HDTV
onkyo htx-22hd 5.1 Receiver
X-FI F4tality

Recently got myself a new receiver, onkyo htx-22hd 5.1 which can decode dts-hd / trueHD etc
In the proccess of trying to hook pc up to receiver, ive got it connected via hdmi cable.

I have downloaded the dts-hd demo for a test, but in powerdvd9 i only get video and no audio.

Ive managed to get audio using VLC or MPC but the reciever either says PCM MULTICHANNEL HDMI or dts... not the logo it should say which according to my receivers manual is " HD MSTR" which stands for dts-hd master audio.

I know with my PS3 you can listen to dts-hd but your receiver will say PCM as the ps3 has already done the decoding, but is it same with the PC?
Is there not away to send the sound from movie uncompressed to receiver to decode?

Would like to know peoples opinions and maybe what steps to take to acheive this on the PC.

Thanks for any help and suggestions

David

PCM is uncompressed and is quality wise identical to sending the bitstream. If you really insist on using the latter see this thread.

Thanks for reply, ive got it setup working with Total Media Theatre aswell but its still the software decoding rather then my receiver.

I followed your link, why is only the ATI 5xxx series cards capable of doing this?

The 4870 that i currecntly have says it can throughput DTS-HD etc, says on the ati website.

Thanks for your suggestions

Sorry, I didn't notice that ATI 4870 is not supported at present.
