You are right! Disabling UAC lets me install it! I've never had to do that with a codec before though.

Hmmm... Do you have some "strange" filter in the "external filters" section? Don't know what else could stop madFlac from working...

What happens if you just drop a FLAC file into GraphEdit without manually choosing madFlac. Does GraphEdit automatically choose madFlac and does playback work that way?

Maybe you still have another filter installed (e.g. CoreFlac)?

When I drop an flac into graphedit I get an error:

"The format is not supported."

I do not have coreflac installed, nor any other flac source filter nor decoder, but clearly somethings wrong on my end, as seems to be more and more often the case

That's a bit strange. Maybe there's another filter which tries to read the FLAC file but fails. Does MPC show you which filter it used for the "cannot render file"?

madFlac v1.4 released

* bugfix: "madFlac" is shown in MPC/ZoomPlayer now instead of file name
* bugfix: maybe installation in Vista64 works now without having to deactivate UAC (not tested)
* bugfix: using different libFlac.dll build to avoid crashes on older CPUs
* in addition to the "madFlac Source" there's now a "madFlac Decoder" filter for decoding FLAC inside of MKV (or other containers)

The new "madFlac Decoder" filter for MKV FLAC decoding is not very well tested yet. So I'd be happy about some feedback. Especially I'd like to know if there are audio dropouts or audio sync problems or anything like that. If everything works great, I'd like to know that, too, of course.

Have not had much time to test, but for me it is great. It does not drop out when ffdshow does (for me ffdshow will always drop out now and then in the first 20 seconds but then more or less behaves) nor pop, which core does sometimes.

I also like the information panel.

Can you please send me a short sample of a file with all the tag infos in it that you want to have supported? I only need a few seconds of audio with the tags in. So e.g. 1MB should be plenty enough.

I know there a ffdhshow Build which can handle 6.1
But this ffdshow Build wont output (on the fly encode) AC3 640 via SPDIF for any Audio like FLAC or WMA pro. It was working fine with older ffdshow Builds

However, AC3 Filter works fine with madflac

Yes, it will connect that way. That's what the madFlac option is meant for...

Btw, if there is interest I might include realtime Aften reencoding to madFlac. However, I don't know how fast Aften is. It might cost too much CPU to be useful.

Any opinions?

Ah, i made a few Test on 6.1 (7.1) FLAC Files.

madflac output from "24 Bit" 6.1 connects to AC3Filter without 5.1 restriction Option!
AC3 Filter decodes only 5.1 from 6.1......i think the BC is skipped
But strange....AC3Filter decodes this Output from madflac (24Bit 7.2) as dts with the "dts decoder" ?!

The same FLAC in 16 bit cant conect to AC3 Filter because its more than 5.1 ,the old Problem.
But now i can set madflac to 5.1 restricted and it works again with AC3 Filter
AC3 Filter decoding is PCM as it should be.

So :
24bit FLAC 6.1 = AC3 Filter decodes it with "dts decoder" as 5.1
16bit FLAC 6.1 = AC3 Filter wont connect without madflac 5.1 restriction. Decoding via PCM as usual

Strange ,isnt it ?

@ Madshi.. it would be a great Coup when you can add AC3 640 Output (SPDIF capable) in madflac ! Maybe you find a Way
