Thoughts and questions on Volume ID patches.

Seeing as some new drives can use the Volume ID patches more people will still be able to use aacskeys even when the host certificate is revoked. But what else?

VideoLan and other players could also benefit if libaacs used the AACSBYPASS code from aacskeys.

The one concern i have though will the industry start revoking bluray drives that have patches available?

If i understand correctly during the aacs authentication process player and drive hand over there certificate. If the drive receives a revoked host cert the process ends you don't get the VID. But in the case of the player say powerdvd when it receives a revoked drive certificate. From what i've read it tells you to update your firmware or something to that effect.

Now there seem to be some murky elements here if the drive is revoked would VideoLan still be able to play blurays or would the drive be toast until a new firmware was released?
