Help - Recoding Downloaded Files for Playback on Tvix, et. al.

Hello all,

I recently got a Tvix and am having trouble playing some downloaded files on it. Some .avi files lose the sound (even when I output in analogue), others won't play at all.

I'm wondering if anyone has put together a single set of instructions with recommended software that will let relatively unsophisticated users like me:

- Determine what format/container a recalcitrant file is in;
- Figure out what it is about the file that renders it incompatible with my hardware player;
- Re-encode the file on my PC so that it will play :-)

I just don't understand this stuff well enough to comb through Doom9 and figure out what I need to do without help.

Thank you!!

Laura F.

Clearly you didn't read the announcement at the top of the forum regarding downloaded files.
Please do not discuss them here.
You certainly will not receive help to process them here.
