The ultimate DVD recordable compatibility list
EDIT : I've updated the required info for the )DVD recordable compatiblity list with the ADVDInfo lead in.. if you posted your results earlier on please add that info (you can edit your own posts so you don't have to repost the info again. Thanks for your help.
I have also removed off-topic posts from the abovementioned thread. This thread shall be used to report about your experiences with DVD recordable media. Please indicate your experience following this template. Replace values given in [] brackets. This is a template, not a real report! Brand: [Verbatim] Type: [DVD-R for data storage] Format: [DVD-R] Max write speed: [2x] Unit price: [$3.99] Retailer: [www.yourstore.com] ADVDInfo Lead In (0E): TDKG01 DVD Burner: [Pioneer A03] DVD burning software: [Nero 5.5.8.0] (also indicate imaging program if applicable, for instance imgtool 0.98) Compatibility: [SMC DVD-330: works Sony xyz-512: works only when burning at 1x speed Thomson 4400: skips ahead a couple of times and the picture breaks up partially in the last 30 minutes etc.] Additional notes: [a 10 disc pack contains at least one faulty disc]. Faulty = data can't be burned or the disc is corrupt after burning. If you have another remark to be made please edit your own post rather than posting a reply.. or this thread will become very confusing. ADVDInfo can be downloaded at http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware..._utils_4.shtml, then start, select your DVD burner, put a disc into the drive, select the option 0E (Pre-Recorded Information Lead-In) and press the Read DVD Struct button. You'll get a lot of unusable info and an upper case string on the right side of the 2nd line.. that's what you're looking for. If you get an ASPI error install foreaspi 2.60 that you can get from www.doom9.org/software.htm

Brand: [DVD Pro / Meritline]
Type: [DVD-R for data storage] Format: [DVD-R] Max write speed: [1x] Unit price: [$1.89] (price dropping, may be lower now) Retailer: [www.meritline.com] DVD Burner: [Pioneer A03 v1.80] DVD burning software: [Prassi Primo DVD 2.0.749] Compatibility: Panasonic RP-56: Good Apex 600A: Required upgraded drive firmware, no problems Apex 703: Good Additional notes: Out of 25 blanks in a pack, approximately 5 blanks had problems with skipping when played in any of the players above. Upon close examination, it appears some of the media was flawed by tiny "speckles" near the outside of the disk - this was the only part of the disk that experienced playback problems. The speckles were not on all blanks, and the ones that were not speckled played perfectly. The burns on the speckled disks play fine on PC DVD-ROM drives, possibly because of better optics and build quality? Last edited by Nogami; 14th April 2002 at 19:25. |
