I have been reading your comments here with interest, what do you make of mine, it shows 8x, shouldnt it be 16x?

there are 560/550 with only x8 that doesn't support more.
but that should be fine.

could be a wrong mainboard settings or unlikely a wrong slot. 8x is usually a shared slot that doesn x16 or two x8 slots for two cards. i bet it's just the card nothing to worry about.

if there is one thing that would scare me it's the 2GB.

edit: 2GB Gigabyte Radeon RX 550 Gaming OC Aktiv is a native x8 if this is your card answer found.

Try reseating the CPU.
Spot on. Pretty sharp. I would have thought either it was seated or not and couldn't close the hatch if it wasn't. Evidently not. Good reco and diagnosis to remember.

Wow, those LGA chips are pretty sensitive, didn't know that could happen.

Its relatively rare to happen and usually requires that it wasn't seated 100% perfectly to begin with to suddenly deteriorate. What surprises me is that it just happens to be some pins it can run without and doesn't just stop working entirely. Or if some power delivery pins get awkward, it may even cause electrical issues.

Those pins on the socket are pretty stout considering the pressure they're under when making contact with the CPU. I would think all of them have no choice but to make solid contact unless one of them is slightly bent from mishandling. I'd bet you could damn near stand on it once it does make correct contact considering the pressures required for some heat sinks.

they are very easy to bend, very easy to bend back and easy to completely break of.

consumer grade hardware doesn't need any pressure from the heatsink and you press the CPU against the plastic socket not the pins the pins are later pressed against the CPU.

you could even break a pin and the CPU may still work there are dummies.

just don't play around with it is very fragile and it doesn't matter for madVR.

Recently I had the same issue on my PC (i7 5775c, Radeon RX Vega64, win10 1709) with slowdown performance in games and in madVR.
After some investigation, I realized that it was caused by windows updates for Spectre and Meltdown. The solution was to deactivate all these patches.
Go to command line under administrator privileges and execute 2 commands:

reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" /v FeatureSettingsOverrideMask /t REG_DWORD /d 3 /f

reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" /v FeatureSettingsOverride /t REG_DWORD /d 3 /f

It solved my problems.

Did you benchmark the performance difference before/after?
The Meltdown patch hardly has any impact on Haswell and later CPUs such as yours, and with the Spectre patch you lose at most 6% in games: http://www.hardware.fr/getgraphimg.php?id=644&n=1

Just updated to the latest version since a year ago, as I was going through different options, it crashed. Then it would crash repeatedly every time I entered settings (see pic), any fix for it?

Reset to defaults. Back up your settings, If found to be the problem madshi may wish to look at it.

Microsoft actually disabled all the Spectre patches this setting refers to in February; I had to roll it out like crazy, and the fix was such a relief. Supposedly it's coming back in modified and less-broken form this month, but I don't know if the same patch will still disable them, Microsoft might change it up.

Talking about PCIe, the GT1030 runs as low as @4x... That's in a PCIe 2.0 slot but probably would be the same in a 3.0 slot... Considering the specs and bandwidth, it still runs 4K 60 fps in MadVR and 8K in EVR, so I'd say the 4x is quite enough for it...

Thanks for information. It was really annoying to get massive frame drops in madvr after 5 minutes of playback. Probably it was related to architecture of processor i7 5775c.

Are you reporting bus interface correctly? Because with no load it can enter power saving; my 1030 for example:

I wanted to know if any of you could help me about the subtitles of blu ray scaled to 3840x2160, in practice when the fixed subtitles come out the image slows down by going for a few seconds, increasing the rendering and after the subtitles disappear it is replaced, this it happens even if I use JINC as IMAGE UPSCALING.
My video card is AMD RX480, media player JRIVER, os WINDOWS 10.
