Scaling a DCP 4096x1714 To 2160p Using Handbrake? [Help]

Hi,

This is a general scaling question, but I'm also using Handbrake so it might refer to some of those settings also.

I'm wondering how to scale a DCP, which is Tears of Steel, from 4096xx1714 to 2160p (3840 × 2160). I want the output resolution to be 2160p. If I leave everything on automatic. The scaling looks off to me and looks stretched. People are taller than they should be like things are squeezed. I'm currently experimenting with different scaling and dimensions to try and make it look correct.

I'm testing this setting now because I thought, maybe I just need to put in 16:9 and that might fix it.

For me to bring 4096 down to 2160p, that would be 3840x1606p. Would these dimensions fix my aspect ratio issue or would I still need to add in the 1606p to 2160p?

So I would need to add 554 pixels for it to look correct? and add 277 pixels top and bottom?

I'm trying different things in Handbrake to fix this, if anyone has any feedback on Handbrake-specific settings that would be greatly appreciated, but if you also have general aspect ratio information that would fix this I would also appreciate that.

Thank you.
Carl.

You are right, your target resolution should be 3840 x 1606. Then the aspect ratio is the same and nothing should be stretched.

If you want 2160 in height, you are right, just add black borders.
277 on top and bottom is right, if only even numbers for the borders are allowed, just use 276 and 278.

Yeah, you're right, it works, thank you so much. Scales perfectly now, and it's not stretched. Perfect 16:9 aspect ratio, and proper resolution of 3840x2160p. Awesome, I really appreciate your help with this.
