Youtube VP9

I've been noticing that many YouTube videos are now switching to the vp9 codec instead of the standard h264 however it seems that the use of this codec is dependent on the amount of views and subscribers.

Can someone confirm this and is their any way to force youtube to use vp9. I'm assuming there isn't but theirs no harm in asking...right?

You can upload 4K video. It will be VP9, if you will activate VP9 in Youtube Studio. Same about HDR. 1080p will depend on subscribers, same about livestreams. Apple, Eurovision have VP9 livestreams.

AV1 needs a million (or at least 100 000) views.

About HDR, I've noticed that if you upload an HDR video (I've only tried with HLG) on youtube, as long as you have an HDR compatible device they will display it as it is, however, if you have an old SDR monitor they will apply a random LUT to bring everything to BT709 SDR 100 nits, but that is often done pretty poorly...
