I hope Mozilla and Xiph are taking notes on coding style and encoder design. Compression efficiency aside, xeve looks really well written.

It is unfortunate nothing much is going on with EVC. My brief test with xeve baseline, really did gets 40% reduction at the same VMAF score compared to x264.

I'm a bit sceptical of this statement re: standard provisioning, do you have further details? From what I recall, VP9 and AV1 have similar provisions for multi-threading, dav1d just does a (much) better job at it than most open-source VP9 decoders we have available ATM. And I don't think dav1d is ever expected to be faster. If it achieves the same FPS (but using more cores), I think we'd be quite content already.

LC-EVC and EVC are unrelated technologies, despite having the same acronym.
