It is unfortunate nothing much is going on with EVC. My brief test with xeve baseline, really did gets 40% reduction at the same VMAF score compared to x264.

I'm a bit sceptical of this statement re: standard provisioning, do you have further details? From what I recall, VP9 and AV1 have similar provisions for multi-threading, dav1d just does a (much) better job at it than most open-source VP9 decoders we have available ATM. And I don't think dav1d is ever expected to be faster. If it achieves the same FPS (but using more cores), I think we'd be quite content already.
