Here is a clarification by Doom9 himself about where he stands regarding Youtube downloads:

Please clarify where you stand about YouTube downloads.

If it is legal, share the link. That rules out any suspicion of impropriety.

IMO this also means that a mod should not close a thread simply because the poster confesses that he downloaded the file in question from Youtube.
