Compare videos in different colorspace

How to compare videos they have different colorspace.
(Please don't say "compare them with your eyes")
I want to compare yv420 and yv422 videos

As you say you don't want to "compare them with your eyes", I assume that you want to use some objective quality metric and that you are aware of the limited expressiveness of such metrics.

Well, the difference between YV420 and YV422 is the different chroma sub-sampling. So, as long as you only compare the Luminance, there is no problem at all.

If you want to compare the Chrominance as well, you will have to either up-sample the YV420's chroma by 2x (in vertical direction) or down-sample the YV422's chroma by 1/2 (in vertical direction).

As objective quality metrics are usually non-blind, i.e. they need a "perfect quality" original to compare against, I'd suggest you resample both videos to the chroma resolution of the original.
