UHD Blu-Ray: Allowed resolutions for HEVC, mandatory audio formats and HDR formats?
I am trying to find information on the above but haven't been successful so far. Most sources are either ambiguous or refer to the original Blu-Ray, so I thought it doesn't hurt to ask here:
- What are the allowed resolution-framerate combos allowed for HEVC? Is 1920x1080 at non-HFR framerates (23.976p, 24p, 25p, 30p) allowed to be in HEVC (or only H.264)? - Is Dolby Digital Plus (aka E-AC3) with Atmos audio a mandatory format or does it have to be accompanied by a Dolby Digital (aka AC3) stream like on the original Blu-Ray? - What HDR formats are mandatory, aka don't need an accompanying stream? By "HDR formats" I mean things like HLG, HDR10, HDR10+ etc - Also, what do I need to write 100GB UHD Blu-Rays? I mean things like writers and blank discs. Can BDXL writers and blank discs be used to produce compatible 100GB UHD Blu-Rays with the right software? |

A: Table 2-3: HEVC Main10, High Level 5.1 max.100Mbps 1920x1080, 3840x2160 @23.976p,24p,25p,50p,59.94p
MPEG-4 AVC High/Main Level 4.1/4.0 max. 40Mbps 1920x1080 @23.976p,24p D: BD-R XL 100GB: Best resource seems makemkv forum. It looks as if only one Panny player (UB-900?) was able to play TL BD-R discs, the others seem to lock that out. https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/sear...rds=BD-R+100GB

C: The dynamic range possibiities are: SDR, HDR10, HDR10+, DV and SL-HDR2 (although I haven't seen any BD title with this format or heard any player supported it) Last edited by pel9; 27th February 2023 at 11:32. |

It's HDR10 for commercially released 4K UHD discs. As previously mentioned!
