JPEG XS is a new codec for IP workflows in studio environments,
for local video networks and for VR/AR applications which allows transferring high-resolution video data over standard Ethernet or other wired connections. The codec is a mezzanine compression codec which works with limited computing resources. The Fraunhofer IIS JPEG XS development can be used for lowest complexity and platform-independency applications at compression ratios from 2:1 to 10:1. First JPEG XS codec implementation for video production in a software-plugin for Adobe® Premiere® Pro CC with real-time playback capability of 4k60p UHD video. – JPEG-XS codec for streaming up to 8k resolution video in professional studio environment – Integration in SMPTE 2110 – Low Latency (32 lines end-to-end) – RGB/YCbCr 444 and 422 up to 12 Bit per component SDK available for Windows and Linux Last edited by Jamaika; 2nd May 2020 at 15:02. |

For IP-video/SDI gateways on the other hand...I been looking for products with JPEG-XS implementations since it was announced. That Riedel press release Jamaika in the other jpeg thread got me very excited for contribution between sites. With 6:1 compression an 1ru gateway should be able to transfer up to 40 HD-SDI one way signals over an 10Gbe fiber, or I guess 32in 32out.
