Blu-ray cannot be played on the computer

I'm having a small problem with the movie Thunderheart.

The Blu-ray released by Sony won't play on my computer.

It plays fine over the network, through Oppo or Panasonic devices.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Any solutions?

Thanks.

Are we supposed to guess which player you're using?

Do you have any logs?

Hi palestina

Is this disc not playing only on your computer? Which player do you use?
A fully blu-ray disc can be played by CyberLink PowerDVD, DVDFab Player, and Scenarist QC.
Have you tried playing this blu-ray disc on all the players?

It won't play with PlayerFab or VLC.

I just tried CyberLink PowerDVD and it plays without any problems. In both cases, it gets stuck on a black screen and doesn't go any further.

I'd kind of forgotten about PowerDVD. I'll start using it again for these situations... although I still don't understand why this is happening.

Thanks for your comments.

Is your Thunderheart Blu-ray disc encrypted?
Has it been encoded with Java based menus?

The Blu-ray disc is not encrypted. As I mentioned, it plays perfectly over the network with Oppo and on a computer with PowerDVD. It only has problems with VLC and PlayerFAB.

The menu isn't the usual Sony menu. It does have JAR files, but the menu is modified using PNG files located in an *assets folder. This is unusual for movies distributed by Sony.

Eh? How are you playing 'a blu-ray disc' over your network? Please provide details...

As I mentioned, it plays without problems over the network on my Oppo 203 and Panasonic 450.

The same movie cannot be played (black screen) directly on my computer using VLC and PlayerFAB. It does play with PowerDVD.

What are you using to mount the Blu-ray disc on your network and make it accessible by your OPPO 203 and Panasonic 450?

Are you actually spinning a blu-ray disc or are you playing a file?

I play the disc in folder format over my local network.

I have the Blu-ray disc copied to my computer.

Now we're getting somewhere!

So... Have you created a 'full disc' back-up or a 'movie only' back-up. Personally I create 'movie only' back-ups which contain only one .m2ts file. Like this: -

No. I haven't created anything.

As I mentioned before, I'm trying to reproduce the original disk dump. Without modifying it.

Your issue is most probably Java related...

There is no problem, the whole problem is in the DVDFab player. This player cannot play all blu-ray and UHD discs.

Thank you so much @taurusus... I kind of suspected as much. There's no other explanation.
