Should I upgrade my Hauppauge HD PVR?

I own a Hauppauge HD PVR that was purchased in 2009. It works fine, but when I look at the 1080i captures it provides, I can't tell if I don't think it looks as good as it should because of the DirecTV box I'm using, or because I'm using old tech (or if that's as good as it'll get regardless).

I'm considering upgrading to the HD PVR 2, but I have no idea if the results will be any better. Any input would be appreciated.

The HD PVR 2 has the advantage of having HDMI input and supports 1080p.

1080i capture from your DirecTV using composite cables would most likely produce similar results using a HD PVR or HD PVR 2.

But you would get better quality if you capture with the HD PVR 2 if your DirecTV has an HDMI output. (This may require using a HDMI splitter box to remove the copy protection). The HD PVR 2 has an AC3 5.1 and 2.0 audio passthrough feature, so you capture lossless audio over HDMI.
