The BBC is gonna shut down all MPEG-2 SD satellite channels in 2023

It's the end of 2022 and with the world moving forward, people would think that it's about time to drop SD compatibility. Well, the BBC certainly thinks so and they're getting ready to save some bandwidth and close their SD satellite channels.
This is the message you'll see if you have an H.264 FULL HD Level 4.1 4:2:0 25i BT709 8bit compatible Decoder (channel 799 on Freesat):

And this is what you get with an MPEG-2 SD 4:2:0 25i BT601 8bit only decoder:

and as you can see from the message:

Quote:
Standard definition (SD) services will be closing.
From early 2023, the SD versions of BBC channels will not carry local programming [...] later in the year, SD versions of BBC channels on satellite will close entirely.”
Honestly, it's about time for the world to move away from SD.
Getting rid of SD means allowing more bandwidth on FULL HD and UHD channels and that's something everyone will welcome, I'm sure.
