Problem bitstreaming with media player classic
I have successfully bitstreamed DTS-MA from a ripped mkv of Star Wars The Force Awakens. However, I cannot hear audio when I play the mkv of 13_Hours_The_Secret_Soldiers_of_Benghazi. This blu-ray has an atmos encoded 7.1 track as well as a 5.1 track. The mkv rip includes both of those tracks with the 7.1 set as the default. When media player classic is set up to permit bitstreaming (view->options->internal filters and hit audio decoder button and select all the checkboxes under the bitstreaming section) then there is this error:
LAV Splitter Source (internal)::Audio LAV Audio Decoder (internal)::Output Media Type 0: -------------------------- Audio: PCM 192000Hz 8ch 24576kbps AM_MEDIA_TYPE: majortype: MEDIATYPE_Audio {73647561-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71} subtype: MEDIASUBTYPE_PCM {00000001-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71} formattype: FORMAT_WaveFormatEx {05589F81-C356-11CE-BF01-00AA0055595A} bFixedSizeSamples: 1 bTemporalCompression: 0 lSampleSize: 1 cbFormat: 40 WAVEFORMATEX: wFormatTag: 0xfffe nChannels: 8 nSamplesPerSec: 192000 nAvgBytesPerSec: 3072000 nBlockAlign: 16 wBitsPerSample: 16 cbSize: 22 (extra bytes) WAVEFORMATEXTENSIBLE: wValidBitsPerSample: 16 dwChannelMask: 0x0000063f SubFormat: {0000000C-0CEA-0010-8000-00AA00389B71} pbFormat: 0000: fe ff 08 00 00 ee 02 00 00 e0 2e 00 10 00 10 00 þÿ...î...à...... 0010: 16 00 10 00 3f 06 00 00 0c 00 00 00 ea 0c 10 00 ....?.......ê... 0020: 80 00 00 aa 00 38 9b 71 €..ª.8›q This is similar to the error MPC had a while ago that was supposedly fixed. https://trac.mpc-hc.org/ticket/4879 When bitstreaming is disabled, then i can hear the audio from either track. Am I missing something? |

Looks to me like your system just doesn't accept TrueHD 7.1 bitstreams.

thank you for your reply. indeed, that is what i suspect but am confused why it can bitstream the 5.1 audio but not the 7.1 atmos audio.
If I make an mkv file with ONLY 5.1 audio, it plays fine and my preamp sees it as 'Dolby Digital'. If however, the 7.1 track is included in the rip, MPC will not play audio, even if I select the 5.1 track from within MPC. If it was an issue with the preamp, then MPC should not complain. I get the same error even when using the nightly build with version 0.68 LAV. Obviously to test this, one needs to have the pc piping the audio out the hdmi audio connection. And the advanced properties of the connection in Windows has to be set to 24 bit 48000 Hz with both exclusive mode checkboxes selected. I am using an NVIDIA 660Ti. |
