Nero Disk Speed no read
I have had this problem over the years and never really pursued it, but now I am wondering why. Many times Nero Disk Speed will not recognize a perfectly good drive, one that burns fine, is recognized by Driver Manager & Imgburn. This has happened on all the Nero Drive Speed programs not just one. T.I.A.

When you say it won't recognise a dive, does it see it, but won't run a quality test? That sort of thing?
I'm pretty sure some drives/manufacturers are deliberately blocked. At least when it comes to running disc quality checks. I can't remember if that stops the program from seeing the drive completely. Many drives don't report errors correctly (or accurately, whatever the case may be) so they're blocked from running quality tests for that reason. I still have Nero7 installed with Nero CD-DVD Speed (version 4.7.7.0), but I think it's the same program with a different name. At one stage I tried a newer version of the Nero suite and found I couldn't run quality tests with my old Pioneer DVD drives any more. The old drives (212s) seem to report errors correctly (newer models definitely don't), so I went back to Nero7. I recall at the time reading something in a forum somewhere regarding Pioneer having requested their drives be blocked. Maybe that's something to do with it. I'm not sure, but it seems probable. |

Nero Disk Speed no read
I have three disk drives installed in my computer, all drive are fine, tested them in other computers and is recognized by other programs and is listed as working in Device Manager. When I open Nero Disk Speed only one is recognized, hope this clears up what the problem is.

You mean that only 1 drive appears ion the list? Then, the drive is not able to be used with NSD, because it cannot provide the quality parameters (or NSD cannot use it for legal reasons). And even if one drive is recognized, it doesn't mean that it will provide reliable results. But nevertheless, once you have an usable drive, you should keep it for future tests, the results from one drive are not comparable with those of another drive.

I am not sure how you got NSD, but are you sure you have the wnaspi32.dll, the interface of all Nero/Ahead products to drives?
You have 3 optical units, and I assume you also have a HDD (for windows). I am forced to reason that some of them are connected via USB or (in this case probably worse) firewire. These also need drivers to work. And firewire has an additional issue, I won't touch for conciseness unless you have it.

I think it's most likely some drives are blocked, although I don't recall them being blocked to the extent Disc Speed couldn't see them at all, but maybe that changed at some stage (I haven't updated Disc Speed for years).
If you feel like experimenting, try looking for this registry entry (this is for an old version of Disc Speed running on XP, so it's possible the registry entries have changed, maybe Disc Speed instead of CD Speed etc): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ahead\Nero Toolkit\CD Speed\CD Quality You'll hopefully find a registry value called "Blocked". You could try double clicking on it, and if the drive manufacturers in question are listed, delete them, save the registry change and reboot (if need be, I'm not sure). If you try it and exciting things happen, please report back, although if the drives are blocked, they're no doubt blocked for a reason. My blocked list is fairly small SAMSUNG,TSST,HL-DT-ST,PLEXTOR I do have a Samsung drive though and Disc Speed can see it, but that behaviour may have changed. Or it may be because the drive's listed as TSSTcorp in Device Manager so it's not being blocked. I might add my other drives to the blocked registry entry later on to see what happens but I don't want to mess around at the moment as the PCs busy doing some encoding. Plextor does not allow 3rd party to use its quality check routines. All Plextors are blocked for legal reasons. This issue is moot, as Plextor no longer manufacture optical drives, but uses/used LG instead. Not a bad choice but no Plextor either ![]() TSST is the joint (ad)venture of Toshiba and Samsung. You should read that Toshiba gives the name, Samsung the products. Samsung manufactures probably the worst optical drives, ever since. Well, someone has to be the last, right? Thus, even if the drives can give some results, these are bad anyway. Samsung is blocked, generally. LG. LG manufactures probably the best readers in the world. I agree that they shouldn't be allowed to test discs, as they will give a lot of "positives". The best drives to use for checking were, are, and probably will also be the LiteOns. Sony liked to rebadge a lot of LiteOns, so Sonies are as good as LiteOns. NEC joined Sony some times ago, some drives are NEC (the AD series), some are LiteOns. Neither is bad. If you don't have one, buy one, they are cheap and quite reliable. But my first advice will still be LG (HL-DT-ST) or Hitachi (the same, but for Japan). Good luck.
