1.) Did you DDU before upgrading the GPU? I know same chip manufacturer, but sometimes necessary. Alternatively AMD Cleanup Utility
2.) What player do you use?
3.) What happens instead.
4.) What refresh rate do you use as default?

well i actually fixed this shortly after I posted this and I thought I knew how but it must have been a fluke. I had a crash on my PC (unrelated) and It wouldnt boot, it forced me to do a system restore and didnt give me the date it had chosen, it turned out to be the restore it took just before I installed my new GPU, and guess what.... its borked again, i'm getting frame drops almost exactly every 40 seconds, using 23,976 as an example. I am using MADVR, lav filters and various players, all exibit the same behaviour so it must be something to do with MADVR?

is anyone aware of any players that use a different renderer which can show playback dialog like ctrl+j in madvr, this will tell me if it is just a MADVR issue or a driver or PC issue.

So far i've tried:

using DDU to wipe everything, did that twice in a row.
used AMD cleanup facility
wiped MADVR completly
uninstalled LAV filters
tried old and new AMD drivers
tried removing all entires in CRU utility and then running DDU again, nothing bl00dy works, i'm losing the will to live here

Also MPC Video Renderer can show what refresh rate is actually set. It shows it in line 2 called "Display:"

that'S not the actual frame rate relative to the system or audio clock it is just the frame rate.

it's maybe the composition rate. both are static numbers.

OK, what exactly does he want to see? If he is using 24.000 Hz mode of Windows and he wants to use 23.976 then he will see it this way.

I did manage to fix it again thankfully but I'm not really sure how again just a combination of things I throw at it I probably need to rebuild my windows 11 machine completely as I'm still using an image that was built years ago which had windows 11 installed on top of Windows 10, it's a good week to rebuild the thing as I have tonnes of software tweaks and settings steam vr all sorts of stuff on it.

It does seem to be a combination of using ddu and cru reset followed by an older driver then installing the newer driver on top seems to resolve it so I don't really know what's going on here.

So I am back to no frame drops for days again.

I have updated my sig

@huhn: mpv -> "shift+i" also just shows actual refresh rate, isn't it?

@mclingo: Do you know what exact step fixed it for you?

Now I only have to check if the Atmos long freezes/drops are gone when bitstreaming…
Just for anyone else reading along (I know you don't really care about madVR these days yourself) setting "after copy to backbuffer" to "flush & wait (sleep)" or “flush” completely eliminates all glitches for me in 119/120Hz, and rendering stats are maintained. With a 4060 and the below settings, everything seems perfect, with Atmos dropouts eliminated by 40X0 card and glitch-free presentation.

only did a short test yet but i can confirm that they seem to work fantastically.

are your render queue also not filling up?

it also results in insanely stable render times i have +- 0.4ms

You can also try “flush” in that spot rather than “flush and wait”. I’m not sure if one is better than the other, but the glitches should be solved either way.

Edit: presenting 16 frames in advance seems to help keep the queues full. Not sure it makes any difference with playback, though.

New 565.90 driver has new HD Audio Driver 1.4.2.6 (drivers directly before have 1.4.0.1).
Sounds like some bigger changers too me.
Maybe worth to take a look:

Hmm, nothing to read about it (at least nothing that I found) and they write about 1.4.2.3 in pdf but 1.4.2.6 is in installer ...
