madVR v0.91.11 now switches automatically to HDR for me with "HDR and Advanced Color" off in Windows. Thanks for the update/workaround.

For me under Win 8.1 64 things are a little different. It switches into HDR fine, INCLUDING under Full Screen Exclusive with the latest (384) Nvidia drivers.

However, it will NEVER switch back to SDR. My LG OLED will switch to SDR when I switch inputs but it will go back to HDR when I switch back to the PC. The only way I can get back to SDR with the PC is to re-boot.

By any chance, is something like 3D Vision required? Currently, I do not have it installed.

Haven't tried this in a while (since before Creators Update ) so ... is 3D not working with Creators Update ?
Cause when I'm trying to play a BD 3D my TV "flickers" a few times (like it's trying to enter in 3D mode ... ) and then windows is crashing
HD7790 + Crimson 17.6.2 beta + LAVFilters-0.70.1 + madVR v0.91.11 + MPC-BE 1.5.1.2685

Read madshis recent status post. AMD is not a good choice for HDR at this time.

Do you have any news on this matter?

When he does, you'll find it in this thread. Until then, patience.

You can enable it with keyboard shortcuts. There is one for Chroma, one for "Image upscaling" and one for "Image downscaling". They still work fine for me.

I'm having this problem too when viewing x265 10-bit encoded anime. Here are images showing what it looks like in windowed and fullscreen.

Yes, this is why those options exist. Make sure to disable the "Use DXVA chroma upscaling..." trade quality for performance options.

HDR questions

Hi guys, hi madshi!

Can you please comment how HDR meta is used when playing a HDR video? Are HDR mastering primaries/luminance from the video sent to the display or some static values are used?

Any chance we'll see HDR support in madTPG in near future?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. madVR is great.

Is there any reason for upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 for using Madvr?
Madshi used to say that 8.1 is better then 10. And what about 7?

Desktop Composition on 8.1 is far better then on 7. Not sure I would upgrade for that alone, but its definitely a plus.

I do not have any problems with 24 and 60Hz content using W7 (AMD drivers).
Will I have some using W8.1?

huhn, why do you recommend FSE for windows 7? What about windowed overlay?
