lots of confusion about that , but the game OS PS3 guys that post over on the PS3/PPC http://forum.beyond3d.com/ threads will help you perhaps, your not going to get much if any PPC/Cell, related SIMD C (c++ etc) code answers here at doom9.
this old thread is what your after perhaps. http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread.php?t=45715 many PS3 games coders and luminarys there OC, or were at that time,ADEX and Dean A being a case in point.... as well as some sample working code for benchmarking etc, something we dont see anywere near enough here at doom9 for x86. regarding your OP and #3 question, ADEX states "The hypervisor in Cell is a mixture of hardware and software. The hardware, located in the PPE gives it an extra privilege level. The software (confusingly also called hypervisor) runs on the PPE...." remember the cell PS3's PPE is in effect a supedup 3Ghz PPC G4, and generic G4 128bit Altivec/vectorisation SIMD unit, wereas the 360's is 3x 3Ghz generic PPC G4 with 3 vectorisation/Altivec units with newer supedup 128bit Altivec with MS requested Altivec SIMD extensions. your more than likely to get the answers and help you require there...but its my recollection that code you refer to runs under the PPC linux port the PPC guys made for cell, you can get PPC/Altivec optimised FFMpeg and x264 running on PS3/PPC linux for a long time now, Gentoo being your better option as thats what the maintainers use. the threads there seem few and far between right now, so more interested PPC/Cell threads from new members might bring out the regulars to help you in your PPC linux questions... i cant find it right now but there was a thread there about a really fast frame buffer codebase that cell PPC linux could use for video, it should'nt take you long to find it if it still exists, as theres only 4 pages back to 2007 http://forum.beyond3d.com/forumdispl...er=desc&page=4 Last edited by popper; 30th December 2008 at 01:57. |
