Well, I'm sick of:
  • links to rapidshare
  • slow turkish webhosts
  • pending attachments
  • bad webhosting in general
so I've set up my own upload script here: http://files.project357.com/
It accepts almost all filetypes and has a (hopefully) nice file browser built in. Not much more to it, enjoy!

Probably because most peoples ISP's offer very slow "upload" speeds compared to their "download" speeds.

Wow - I really wonder why no-one has mentioned Google pages. You can upload 100MB with all extensions and link them with no limitations.

I would highly recommend avoiding Rapidshare, and perhaps Imageshack too. There are a number of other general file hosting sites listed in this thread, and from what I've seen Photobucket is decent for images.

Specific reasons:
Imageshack: Hey, this image is expired/you're using too much bandwidth/there's no such image/we don't like you/it's Tuesday, so instead of your image, here's an ad! Also, people always just blindly copy their code that makes the image a link back to their site, which is annoying.

Rapidshare: Downloading is as simple as closing a few popups (BTW, buy a premium account!), selecting Free (hey you should get a Premium account), closing some popups (did I mention we have Premium accounts?), waiting for a timer to count down for no real reason (did you know Premium accounts allow you to do advanced things like downloading files?), closing a popup or two (why don't you have a Premium account yet?), receiving an error message in German (dude you should have a Premium account!), and repeating this process about 17 times (why not get a Premium account?). More than likely (PS: buy a Premium account), you won't be allowed to use the free account at all (maybe you should try a Premium account), because even though you haven't used their site in months (omg go get a Premium account!), you've already downloaded 23432MB in the last 2 days (FYI, Premium accounts are great!).

If you must download from Crapidshare, you can use Proxomitron to kill the download timer (which is simply a Javascript counter); I'd post the filter I use, but they've probably changed their code since I last used it; it's pretty simple to figure out anyway. However, you'll still have to hit Back and Download over and over 17 times until you actually get a download instead of an error message.

Imageshack's other big problem: Their servers go up and down all the time, it's too unreliable since they put all the load-balancing right into the link. More than a few pics have been posted here that were unreachable for a day or two. Haven't seen photobucket have that sort of problem, or the other image hosts.

here are my 2 recommendations for file sharing...

for general files:

Wiki upload

I highly recommend this service!! a possible file upload up to 5GB - really a great side!!

for images:

Free Image Hosting

very stable and reliable hosting side - lean and clean layout and all usual image filetypes are supported.

well, you simply can't 'share' rapidshare stuff unless the user on the other end has an account themselves. on one hand the service is super fast and the quality is generally high, but you can't exactly 'share' as easy as you'd like.

I'd like to mention http://drop.io

You can create free "drops" of data, which are basically virtual folders with 100 MB of free space, then you can add files into that space and give the folder link to people.

It uses Amazon S3 storage so it should be pretty fast to most people.

ps. sorry, didn't realize this was an old thread and the guy above me was just a link spammer

I saw once in this forum someone who uploaded his pics to a image hosting web where you could do mouseover to check the frames differences. Does someone remember that?

edit: Yes, that one, Thank you!

I checked upload.com and it is good for uploading images and clips, but does it work with the flash and animated images too?
