DAMN EVR!
I want to believe Microsoft is actually doing something good for us, but then it all proves they are not! With EVR I have the exact same problem I have with WMP, gray bars. Have a look at the screenshot above. The video is widescreen and the bars added are exactely (16,16,16) RGB. If I use ffdshow's level correction + RGB High Quality output I get this weird result. http://rash.apanela.com/images/wmp_grey_back.jpg Very, very annoying. Now back to Haali (that is awsome, I am not complaining, really). The strange thing, though, is that I am still getting the "DVD: Macrovision Fail" error when using Cyberlink Audio Decoder. I don't get this error on KMPlayer (I am using a region free DVD). |

@mariner
Don't you get tearing as well using EVR on xp with Casimir666's MPC v1.0.6.0?. here it tears a lot. 6800GS PCI-E/FW158.22. @Casimir666 Internal subtitle engine must be broken or something in your latest version. Using mkv file with embedded ass subtitles. only some parts of the subtitles appear and very rarely. Last edited by Kado; 7th May 2007 at 22:44. |

In new version I can't see any toolbar and mouse cursor even if I disable "d3d fullscreen" hack. Pause on LMB click don't work (it enabled in options) And I have a strange bug about DVD playback. If I open first IFO file on DVD saved to HDD MPC start to play that DVD. But if I try to do the same thing second time MPC just freese. |

Hi Kado,
On my AGP based entry level system here (both Nvidia and ATI), the main problem with 1920x1080x60fps playback is the massive amount of dropped frames, especially with VMR9. Tearing is not much of an issue once wait_for_vsync is enabled. On the ATI system, EVR apparently takes care of the dropped frames issue and playback looks smooth. (EVR has not been tested on the Nvidia system yet.) The occasional hick up could be caused by inadequate power supply to the graphics card. Of course we have to wait for Casimir to get the tearing test working with EVR before knowing for sure, as reclock does not seem to function with the new renderer. Hope this helps. @mariner & kado
I have tearing with EVR on XP too, but not under Vista with latest nVidia driver. Mariner when you say "Tearing is not much of an issue once wait_for_vsync is enabled" do you mean you activated "Lock back buffer" option? If so you should uncheck it, because this option generate dropped frames. @B.F I have freezing problem when closing video sometimes (don't know why yet).

I get several results here:
EVR tears no matter what settings I use in nVidia control panel with normal resolution videos. Tearing is very little no almost none playing AIR HD intro (1920x1080x30fps wmv3 and x.264) with EVR. Haali and VMR9 plays smoothly, no tearing and no dropped frames. Anyway my graphics card is being properly supplied with power (enermax liberty 500watts) so I wonder why EVR does not work properly on xp.... Also FRAPS does not display the frame counter when EVR is used... Last edited by Kado; 8th May 2007 at 12:12. |

Humm, I wonder what's the matter with EVR. I remember there was a PowerPoint presentation from Microsoft talking about the features of EVR. Sounded promising. So I think either we have been fooled by Microsoft or EVR is too bound by the drivers, and NVIDIA drivers for Vista are horrible.

@Casimir666: can you do something about this? http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.ph...958#post973958
And if we are here with the internal subtitle engine: can you make a patch that the subresync part doesn't erase format tags (eg. italic, etc.) when we save to srt? (it would be very handy) And thanks for your effort to work on MPC! |

Thanks for trying to keep up the MPC development Casimir
Are you guys doing anything special to use EVR in XP ? I'm currently using Windows XP x64 and the EVR option is greyed out for me I'm also finding that the "left click to pause" does not always work and sometimes rewinds the video and plays from the beginning [edit] Could some kind soul using Vista see if the EVR option stops the screensaver or powersave options from kicking in while media is playing please? I'd try it myself in Vista, but I only have a slimmed XP 64 installed at the mo while I'm testing some memory Last edited by Pyr0; 8th May 2007 at 20:20. |
