SeeMoreDigital: For LD specifically, you should be focusing on the quality of the comb filter that's used. I posted what I know in this thread (read the next page too since I made a correction).

Actually, you can use progressive resolutions exactly like DVD. I own a professional "SD Blu-ray" release that uses 480p23.976 AVC with soft 3:2 pulldown for the main feature.
