BD Rebuilder and creating a disc with files... not from a BD
I am looking to create a BD with 12 titles, which I have made from VHS tapes. I am not looking to take a previous BD and work with that. Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated. I am not interested in BDedit as that looks very comples.
For my BD, all I want to do is add the files and add a main menu with a list of titles, along with my own custom menu background image. I really think that this should be quite simple, but so far I have had issues. I add my files with "Import" and select a background image of my own for the disc. I am not creating chapters on the main menu for each title. I have a nice background and just need links to each program on the main menu. When I load the BDMV folders into VLC, I do see the image I created for this menu, but the links to each program on the menu simply are not there. My image is a 1920x1080 jpg image. I would suspect that this should be pretty straight forward. Can I only create a BDMV folder from a previous Blu-ray or DVD structure, or is it possible to do this from scratch like I am attempting to do here? I have looked at the HIDDENOPTS.TXT and the BDREBUILDER.INI but I have no idea which options I need to use for this very basic blu-ray structure and I have made several attempts to create BDMV but so far have been unsuccessful. With VLC I can access the titles listed and can access them from the "Playback" option in VLC, but again, the main menu shows no links to the programs at all. My concern is I would burn the blu-ray, pop it into my bluray player and have a main menu and no way to access the titles. All 12 of them can be played, but again, not from the main menu. If someone here has exprerience builing a simple blu-ray structure like this I would really appreciate it. Thanks. Last edited by sacdman; 9th January 2026 at 05:55. |

a) I seem to recall that for some reason, menus generated by BDRebuilder don't work in VLC. I stand to be corrected. They may (I have never tried it) work in a disc player, and if you want to go this route, doing a test burn to a RE (rewritable) might give you an answer.
b) For what you describe - and this is what I use: DeanBG's MultiAVCHD will get you there easily, and it will play in VLC. A couple of hints, though: - save your project frequently. The app does, in my experience, crash from time to time without warning nor any recovery. You need to restart and reload the project as per your last save. - when you are done, it will generate a folder AVCHD, rather than a disc .iso. You can play this folder directly in VLC. Something like imgburn will then make you an .iso from your AVCHD folder and then you can burn it to a disc. - ideally your source files will already be BD compatible. If they aren't (or you aren't sure) you could use BDRebuilder initially to generate your sources; take it's finished product and pull out all the streams from the end result and then use them as sources for your disc. Working with multiAVCHD and still no joy.
Okay, I don't know what that means to take out streams. Is that demuxing? I also have made a few attempts to create a BD with multiAVCHD but it have had mixed results. Here is some information... Again, thanks for your help! I have added a log file below. I hope this will help.
There are a lot of settings and it appears that it is not encoding some of my .h264 .mp4 files. The Audio is AC3 and encoded at 1920x1080 with Shutter Encorder. The TV show is SCTV from the 70s. Still sort of flailing around here and not sure if I can even set up a work flow that will be convenient. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks again! |

Not sure whether you've tried this -- but just in case:
1. Go to the SETTINGS/IMPORT/QUICK PLAY SETTINGS menu as select the background you want to use (or just keep the default). 2. Do the same for background audio. 3. Go to FILE/IMPORT/VIDEO FILES and select the files you want to put in the BD. 4. A dialog will pop up in which you can change the TITLE for the menu and edit file names (if you want). In the end it will create a PSEUDO-BD you can use as a source to do an actual encode (to make sure everything is BD compliant). Run the job and burn it to a disc (if you want). I do this all the time.

I think this is the way I have been doing it... more or less
I did look at the popup when importing the files at the end... I did see a place where I can rename it... Is that what is needed? I am trying this now and will let you know how it goes... thanks!

Allow BDRebuilder to make your compilation to ensure BD-Video compatibility. It will (or should) re-encode any that aren't. Open that compilation in your file explorer. Find the folder BDMV > STREAM and in there you will find several .m2ts files each numbered. Typically there will be one or more with the lead digit 0 (like 000000.m2ts; 000001.m2ts etc.) and these are your actual movies. Others with different lead digits are menus etc. Copy only the 0... files to elsewhere. I'd rename them to reflect their contents at this point but it isn't necessary. Those will be the media files you will add to your compilation. |

Menu issue still persists.
I have tried again to create a BD. The only program on my PC I have that read BD menus is VLC. I simply mount the ISO and open it in VLC. I have attached a photo of what my menu looks like in VLC. Below is the config ini details and below that is the log file. Thanks again for being so helpful.
Here are the details from the config file Code:

I'd suggest you burn it to a BD and test it on a real Blu-Ray player. I suspect it is a problem in VLC, not BD-RB. If it works on the player, that confirms my suspicion.

Don't know what to say. Importing video files and creating discs with menus is the thing I do more than anything else with BD Rebuilder - and I've never had a problem.

Try removing MENU_AUTO_BACKGROUND=0 from you INI or set it to MENU_AUTO_BACKGROUND=1
