Chinese AVS3 codec

Looks like the Chinese have developed their own VVC competitor called AVS3.

There's very little info about it unfortunately.

these chinese codecs have a track record of having poor compression. AVS2 for example claimed to be either the same quality as hevc or better or something but turned out to be worse than x264 according to tests by moscow state university. I wonder how widely used these codecs actually are in china.

I don't think I've ever seen a AVSx encoded file in the wild. if they're used at all, it would be for intra-China OTT or digital broadcast, maybe?

There's certainly never been any sign outside of press releases that any of them have been close to real-world competitive to the mainstream codecs of the time the AVS version was released.
