B-frame working

Hi All,

I'm trying to learn video encoding process. My question is in Bi prediction (b-slice or mb) how is prediction block formed. Lets take an example.

i have current submacroblock 8x8 (nth frame) is predicting from List0 reference and also from List1 reference frame (two MV). so now it has two prediction submacroblock but for motion compensation it requires only one predicted block . Do they take average of the both predicted submacroblock or do they consider min SAD of (List0, List1). Please can you explain me on this.

thanks in advance.
